Abstract

A shape memory polymer (SMP) intraocular lens may have a refractive index above 1.45, a Tg between 10° C. and 60° C., inclusive, de minimis or an absence of glistening, and substantially 100% transmissivity of light in the visible spectrum. The intraocular lens is then rolled at a temperature above Tg of the SMP material. The intraocular device is radially compressed within a die to a diameter of less than or equal to 1.8 mm while maintaining the temperature above Tg. The compressed intraocular lens device may be inserted through an incision less than 2 mm wide in a cornea or sclera or other anatomical structure. The lens can be inserted into the capsular bag, the ciliary sulcus, or other cavity through the incision. The SMP can substantially achieve refractive index values of greater than or equal to 1.45

         40 . A shape memory polymer (SMP), derived from a formulation comprising:
 a. tertbutyl acrylate (tBA);   b. about 3 to about 25 wt % of one or more poly(ethylene glycol) dimethacrylate (PEGDMA) monomers;   c. about 0 to about 20 wt % of one or more n-butyl acrylate (nBA);   d. about 0 to about 20 wt % of 2-hydroxy-3-phenoxypropyl acrylate (HPPA);   e. about 0.25 to about 1.5 wt % one or more UV-blockers; and   f. about 0.05 to about 3.0 wt % of one or more polymerization initiators.   
     
     
         41 . A shape memory polymer (SMP), derived from a formulation comprising:
 a. at least about 22% wt % of tertbutyl acrylate (tBA);   b. about 3 to about 25 wt % of one or more poly(ethylene glycol) dimethacrylate (PEGDMA) monomers;   c. about 0 to about 20 wt % of one or more n-butyl acrylate (nBA);   d. about 0 to about 20 wt % of 2-hydroxy-3-phenoxypropyl acrylate (HPPA);   e. about 0.25 to about 1.5 wt % one or more UV-blockers; and   f. about 0.05 to about 3.0 wt % of one or more polymerization initiators.   
     
     
         42 . The SMP of  claim 40  or  41 , wherein the PEGDMA is selected from the group consisting of: PEGDMA 550; PEGDMA 750; PEGDMA 1000; PEGDMA 2000 and any combination thereof. 
     
     
         43 . The SMP of  claim 40  or  41 , wherein the PEGDMA is PEGDMA 750. 
     
     
         44 . The SMP of  claim 40  or  41 , wherein the PEGDMA is PEGDMA 1000. 
     
     
         45 . A shape memory polymer (SMP), derived from a formulation comprising:
 a. at least about 22% wt % of tertbutyl acrylate (tBA);   b. about 3 to about 25 wt % of one or more poly(ethylene glycol) dimethacrylate (PEGDMA) monomers, wherein the PEGDMA is selected from the group consisting of: PEGDMA 550; PEGDMA 750; PEGDMA 1000; PEGDMA 2000 and any combination thereof;   c. about 0 to about 20 wt % of one or more n-butyl acrylate (nBA);   d. about 0.25 to about 1.5 wt % one or more UV-blockers; and   e. about 0.05 to about 3.0 wt % of one or more polymerization initiators.   
     
     
         46 . The SMP of  claim 45 , wherein the PEGDMA is PEGDMA 750. 
     
     
         47 . The SMP of  claim 45 , wherein the PEGDMA is PEGDMA 1000. 
     
     
         48 . The SMP of  claim 45 , further comprising about 0 to about 20 wt % of 2-hydroxy-3-phenoxypropyl acrylate (HPPA). 
     
     
         49 . The SMP of  claims 40 ,  41  or  45 , wherein the one or more UV-blockers are selected from the group consisting of: a methacryloyl chlorobenzotriazole; a methacryloyl methoxybenzotriazole; a yellow dye; and any combination thereof.

The SMP of  claims 40 ,  41  or  45 , wherein the UV-blocker is selected from the group consisting of: 2-methylacrylic acid 3-[3-tert-butyl-5-(5-chlorobenzotriazol-2-yl)-4-hydroxyphenyl]-propyl ester (UVB); and 2-(2-hydroxy-3-tert-butyl-5-vinylphenyl)-5-chloro-2H-benzotriazole (UVAM). 
     
     
         51 . The SMP of  claims 40 ,  41  or  45 , wherein the UV-blocker is 3-(tert-butyl)-4-hydroxy-5-(5-methoxy-2H-benzo[d][1,2,3]triazol-2-yl)phen-ethyl methacrylate.

The SMP of  claims 40 ,  41  or  45 , further comprising one or more polymerization initiators selected from the group consisting of: 2,2-dimethoxy-2-phenylacetophenone (Irgacure 651); phenylbis(2,4,6-trimethylbenzoyl)phosphine oxide (Irgacure 819); azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN); lauroyl peroxide; di(4-tert-butylcyclohexyl)peroxydicarbonate (Perkadox 16); camphorquinone; diphenyl-(2,4,6-trimethylbenzoyl)-phosphine oxide (TPO); and any combination thereof. 
     
     
         53 . The SMP of  claims 40 ,  41  or  45 , further comprising a polymerization initiator that is lauroyl peroxide. 
     
     
         54 . The SMP of  claims 40 ,  41  or  45 , further comprising a polymerization initiator that includes a photo initiator and a thermal initiator. 
     
     
         55 . The SMP of  claims 40 ,  41  or  45 , comprising about 15 wt % of nBA. 
     
     
         56 . The SMP of  claims 40 ,  41  or  48 , comprising about 15 to about 20 wt % of HPPA.
