Osteotomy device, in particular for performing extreme scarf osteotomy in the treatment of severe hallux valgus
Abstract
An extreme movement osteotomy device includes an attachment plate suitable for being locked to the cortical substance of the bone to be treated, having a first proximal portion suitable for being attached to the inner cortical substance of the metatarsal diaphysis of the bone, a distal portion suitable for being attached to the outer cortical substance, next to the epiphysis of the metatarsus, and a central portion connecting the proximal and distal portions, each one of the proximal and distal portions of the plate being provided with at least one hole and orthopaedic screws to pass therethrough; and a proximal intramedullary support system having a shank with a foam tip extending from the end of the proximal portion of the plate.

20 . The osteotomy plate of claim 19 , wherein the angle of the shank is between 0° and 30°.
21 . The osteotomy plate of claim 20 , wherein the angle of the shank is 10°.
22 . The osteotomy plate of claim 19 , wherein the proximal portion of the plate includes:
a first hole for receiving a locking orthopedic screw, the first hole of the proximal portion having an axis which is perpendicular to the plane; and a second hole for receiving a non-locking orthopedic screw, the second hole of the proximal portion having an axis which is angulated relative to an orthogonal of the plane.
23 . The osteotomy plate of claim 19 , wherein the at least one hole includes a contour comprising a material configured to be tapped by a threaded head of a locking screw when received into the at least one hole.
24 . The osteotomy plate of claim 23 , wherein the contour of the at least one hole comprises a polymer of the family of polyaryletherketones (PAEK).
25 . The osteotomy plate of claim 24 , wherein the polymer comprises polyetheretherketone (PEEK).
26 . The osteotomy plate of claim 24 , wherein the contour of the at least one hole is defined by an insert.
27 . The osteotomy plate of claim 19 , wherein the shank comprises a polygonal cross-section.
28 . The osteotomy plate of claim 27 , wherein the shank comprises a square cross-section having rounded angles.
29 . The osteotomy plate of claim 19 , wherein a lower surface of the plate comprises a granular surface.
30 . The osteotomy plate of claim 19 , wherein the proximal portion, the distal portion, the central portion, and the shank each comprise a biocompatible material.
31 . The osteotomy plate of claim 30 , wherein the biocompatible material comprises titanium.
32 . The osteotomy plate of claim 19 , wherein the at least one hole of the proximal portion has an axis which is angulated relative to an orthogonal of the plane.
33 . The osteotomy plate of claim 32 , wherein the axis of the at least one hole of the proximal portion is angulated relative to the orthogonal of the plane at an angle between 0° and 45°.
34 . A system, comprising:
an osteotomy plate, comprising:
a proximal portion;
a distal portion; and
a central portion connecting the proximal and distal portions, each of the proximal and distal portions defining at least one hole for receiving an orthopedic screw, and wherein the proximal portion, distal portion, and central portion define a plane; and
a shank extending from and formed integrally with a proximal end of the proximal portion, wherein the shank is configured to be positioned in a central medullary a bone, wherein the shank is inclined at an angle relative to the plane; and
at least one screw configured to be inserted through one of the at least one hole of the proximal portion or the at least one hole of the distal portion, wherein the at least one locking screw is configured to couple the osteotomy plate to the bone.
35 . The system of claim 34 , wherein the osteotomy plate is configured for extreme SCARF in treatment of severe Hallux Valgus.
36 . The system of claim 34 , wherein the at least one screw comprises a locking screw having a threaded head, and wherein a contour of the at least one hole in the osteotomy plate comprises a material configured to be tapped by the threaded head of the locking screw when received into the at least one hole.
37 . The system of claim 36 , wherein the material of the contour comprises a polymer of the family of polyaryletherketones (PAEK).
38 . The system of claim 37 , wherein the contour of the at least one of the holes is formed by an insert.
39 . The system of claim 34 , wherein the angle of the shank is between 0° and 30°.
40 . A method, comprising:
positioning an osteotomy plate adjacent to a bone, the osteotomy plate comprising a proximal portion, a distal portion, a central portion connecting the proximal and distal portions, and a shank extending from and formed integrally with a proximal end of the proximal portion, wherein the proximal portion, distal portion, and central portion define a plane, and wherein the shank is inclined at an angle relative to the plane; inserting the shank into a medullary canal of the bone; coupling the osteotomy plate to the bone by inserting at least one locking screw through at least one hole defined in one of the proximal portion or the distal portion of the osteotomy plate.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
