Building Panel
Abstract
A building panel has an outer skin spaced from an inner skin, sandwiching an insulation material. A first end of the outer skin includes a step portion, an indented fastener receiving portion and a first flange. The first flange extends outwardly toward a surface of the outer skin. A seal is mounted on the first flange. The inner skin includes a first end. The inner skin first end includes a shelf and a second flange extending from the shelf. A second seal is positioned on the second flange. A second end of the outer skin includes a portion to receive an outer skin first end of an adjoining panel. A second end of the inner skin includes a portion to receive an inner skin first end of the adjoining panel.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A building panel comprising:
an exterior skin; an interior skin; foam sandwiched between the exterior and interior skins forming the building panel; the building panel has two ends, the first end is defined by the exterior skin having a first and second step portion adjacent one another, both step portions including a tread and riser, the second riser is positioned closer to the interior skin, a third step portion in a direction opposite to the first and second step portions, a third tread extends away from the second riser forming a receiving channel between the second and third treads, a third riser extends from the third tread, the third riser is substantially perpendicular to the second riser and includes a seal, the interior skin includes a fourth step portion with a fourth tread extending toward the exterior skin and a fourth riser, a seal is positioned on the fourth riser, the second end includes a pair of channels for receiving seals on adjacent panels, the interior skin seal is positioned closer to the first end.
2 . The building panel of claim 1 , wherein the exterior skin first and second treads are sloped.
3 . The building panel of claim 1 , wherein a gap is formed between the first flange and the foam.
4 . The building panel of claim 1 , wherein the interior skin fourth riser has a U-shape with a gap between legs of the U to receive foam.
5 . The building panel of claim 4 , wherein the foam between the exterior skin third riser and interior skin fourth riser has a tapered surface.
6 . A joint clip for securing a building panel to a frame structure comprising:
a base having at least one aperture, a pair of walls extending from sides of the base, the walls and base defining a cavity, a resilient pad positioned in the cavity for sealing a fastener passing through the base aperture, and a fastener passing through the base aperture and pad for securing the clip to a frame structure and, in turn, securing a building panel on the frame structure.
7 . The joint clip of claim 6 , wherein the fastener has a pair of spaced apart threads.
8 . The joint clip of claim 6 , wherein the fastener has a self-tapping pilot tip.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
