Abstract

A co-forged iron type golf club is disclosed. More specifically, the present invention discloses a co-forged iron type golf club with the body portion made out of a face portion and a back portion and at least one weight adjustment portion monolithically encased within the back portion of the co-forged iron type golf club head without the need for secondary attachment or machining operations.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method of forming a forged golf club head comprising:
 forging a face portion comprised of a striking face and a hosel, a top line, an upper toe portion, and a front sole portion from a first Maraging steel material;   casting a back portion comprised of a back wall portion and a back sole portion from a carbon steel material;   forming a toe weight member and a heel weight member from tungsten or tungsten alloy;   attaching the toe weight member and the heel weight member to the back portion with clips or weld beads;   co-forging the back portion, the toe weight member and the heel weight member into final shape; and   welding the back portion to the front portion.   
     
     
         2 . The method of forming a forged golf club head of  claim 1 , wherein the back portion and the front portion are configured to form an undercut cavity therebetween. 
     
     
         3 . The method of forming a forged golf club head of  claim 2 , wherein the back portion has a mass of greater than 40 grams. 
     
     
         4 . The method of forming a forged golf club head of  claim 3 , wherein the club head has a club head mass and the toe weight member and the heel weight member together form greater than 23% of the club head mass. 
     
     
         5 . The method of forming a forged golf club head of  claim 4 , wherein the back portion, the toe weight member and the heel weight member together form greater than 40% of the club head mass.
