Lid with a venting assembly

Abstract

A removable lid for selectively sealing a storage vessel is provided, the storage vessel including a base and a continuous sidewall. The removable lid comprises a main body having a bottom surface and a top surface. A tab is movably secured to the main body and the tab is selectively movable between a first position and a second position. A gasket is secured to the bottom surface, and a vent is formed in the gasket. The vent includes an aperture extending from an outer gasket side to an inner gasket side and the vent further includes a vent seal. A sealing protrusion is disposed on the tab. The sealing protrusion includes a sealing face disposed on a distal end of the sealing protrusion, wherein when the tab is disposed in the first position, the sealing face contacts the vent seal and forms a seal with the vent seal to retard fluid flow across the gasket.

1 . A removable lid for selectively sealing a storage vessel, the storage vessel including a base and a continuous sidewall, the removable lid comprising:
 a main body having a bottom surface and a top surface;   a tab movably secured to the main body, the tab selectively movable between a first position and a second position;   a gasket secured to the bottom surface;   a vent formed in the gasket, the vent including an aperture extending from an outer gasket side to an inner gasket side and the vent further including a vent seal; and   a sealing protrusion disposed on the tab, the sealing protrusion including a sealing face disposed on a distal end of the sealing protrusion, wherein when the tab is disposed in the first position, the sealing face contacts the vent seal and forms a seal with the vent seal to retard fluid flow across the gasket.   
     
     
         2 . The removable lid of  claim 1 , wherein the tab is hingedly connected to the main body. 
     
     
         3 . The removable lid of  claim 1 , wherein the bottom surface includes a gasket guide for positioning and retaining the gasket relative to the removable lid. 
     
     
         4 . The removable lid of  claim 1 , wherein the vent seal is a compressible vent seal and the sealing protrusion compresses the compressible vent seal when the tab is located in the first position. 
     
     
         5 . The removable lid of  claim 1 , wherein the removable lid is substantially circular in shape. 
     
     
         6 . The removable lid of  claim 1 , wherein the removable lid includes four rounded corners having a first radius of curvature and a side between each pair of adjacent rounded corners having a second radius of curvature, the first radius of curvature being less than the second radius of curvature. 
     
     
         7 . The removable lid of  claim 1 , wherein the continuous sidewall includes an upper edge and the gasket forms a fluid-tight seal with the upper edge when the tab is located in the first position. 
     
     
         8 . The removable lid of  claim 1 , wherein the tab includes a tab securement protrusion that engages with a vessel lip when the tab is located in the first position to thereby removably attach the removable lid to the storage vessel. 
     
     
         9 . The removable lid of  claim 1 , wherein a movable cam selectively compresses the gasket into an upper edge of the continuous sidewall. 
     
     
         10 . A removable lid for selectively sealing a storage vessel, the storage vessel including a base and a continuous sidewall, the removable lid comprising:
 a main body having a bottom surface and an upper surface;   a tab movably secured to the main body, the tab selectively movable between a first position and a second position;   a gasket secured to the bottom surface; and   a channel disposed on a lower surface of the gasket, the gasket being selectively compressible between a relatively compressed state and a relatively uncompressed state, the channel allowing passage of fluid across the gasket when the gasket is in the relatively uncompressed state and the gasket retarding fluid flow across the gasket when the gasket is in the relatively compressed state.   
     
     
         11 . The removable lid of  claim 10 , wherein the tab is hingedly connected to the main body. 
     
     
         12 . The removable lid of  claim 10 , wherein a movable tab module selectively compresses the gasket into the relatively compressed state. 
     
     
         13 . The removable lid of  claim 10 , wherein a movable cam selectively compresses the gasket into the relatively compressed state. 
     
     
         14 . The removable lid of  claim 10 , wherein the tab includes a tab securement protrusion that engages with a vessel lip when the tab is located in the first position to thereby removably attach the removable lid to the storage vessel. 
     
     
         15 . A storage container assembly, comprising:
 a storage vessel including a base and a continuous sidewall;   a removable lid comprising a main body having a bottom surface and an upper surface;   a tab movably secured to the main body, the tab selectively movable between a first position and a second position;   a gasket secured to the bottom surface;   a vent formed in the gasket, the vent including an aperture extending from an outer gasket side to an inner gasket side and the vent further including a vent seal; and   a sealing protrusion disposed on the tab, the sealing protrusion including a sealing face disposed on a distal end of the sealing protrusion, and when the tab is located in the first position, the sealing face contacts the vent seal and forms a seal with the vent seal to retard fluid flow between the inner gasket side and the outer gasket side.   
     
     
         16 . The storage container assembly of  claim 15 , wherein the continuous sidewall includes an upper edge and the gasket forms a fluid-tight seal with the upper edge when the tab is located in the first position. 
     
     
         17 . The storage container assembly of  claim 15 , wherein the tab is hingedly connected to the main body. 
     
     
         18 . The storage container assembly of  claim 15 , wherein the bottom surface includes a gasket guide for positioning and retaining the gasket relative to the removable lid. 
     
     
         19 . The storage container assembly of  claim 15 , wherein the removable lid is substantially circular in shape. 
     
     
         20 . The storage container assembly of  claim 15 , wherein the removable lid includes four rounded corners having a first radius of curvature and a side between each pair of adjacent rounded corners having a second radius of curvature, the first radius of curvature being less than the second radius of curvature.
