Drinking container lid
Abstract
A drinking container lid assembly a lid body, a closing mechanism, and a lockout mechanism. The lid body includes a drink opening. The closing mechanism attaches with the lid body and is movable between an open operating position and a closed operating position. The closing mechanism allows the flow of liquid from an associated drinking container through the drink opening when in the open operating position, and precludes the flow of liquid from the drinking container through the drink opening when in the closed operating position. The lockout mechanism includes a movable member biased toward liquid in the drinking container when the lid assembly is engaged with the drinking container. The movable member is configured to engage with the closing mechanism to inhibit moving the closing mechanism from the closed operating position to the open operating position when pressure in the drinking container exceeds a predetermined threshold.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A drinking container lid assembly configured to engage an associated drinking container, the lid assembly comprising:
a lid body including a drink opening; a closing mechanism attached with the lid body and movable between an open operating position and a closed operating position, the closing mechanism allowing flow of liquid from the associated drinking container through the drink opening when in the open operating position and precluding flow of liquid from the associated drinking container through the drink opening when in the closed operating position; and a lockout mechanism cooperating with the closing mechanism, the lockout mechanism including a movable member biased toward liquid in the associated drinking container when the lid assembly is engaged with the associated drinking container, wherein the movable member is configured to engage with the closing mechanism to inhibit movement of the closing mechanism from the closed operating position to the open operating position when pressure in the associated drinking container exceeds a predetermined threshold.
2 . The lid assembly of claim 1 , wherein the closing mechanism includes a movable arm and the movable member contacts the movable arm when pressure in the associated drinking container exceeds the predetermined threshold.
3 . The lid assembly of claim 1 , wherein the closing mechanism includes a button accessible from an exterior of the lid body, wherein movement of the button is precluded when the lockout mechanism is engaged with the closing mechanism.
4 . The lid assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a lower body gasket connected with the lid body, wherein the lower body gasket covers the movable member and defines a portion of a drink passage, which is in fluid communication with the drink opening.
5 . The lid assembly of claim 4 , wherein the lid body includes an upper lid body connected with a lower lid body, wherein at least a portion of the closing mechanism and the lockout mechanism are positioned between the upper lid body and the lower lid body, and the lower body gasket prevents liquid traveling through the drink passage from contacting the closing mechanism and the lockout mechanism.
6 . The lid assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a drink valve operable in a closed state in which liquid from the associated drinking container is precluded from passing through the drink opening and an open state in which liquid from the associated drinking container is allowed to pass through the drink opening, wherein the closing mechanism includes a movable arm that moves toward the drink valve when the closing mechanism is moved from the closed operating position toward the open operating position to deform the drink valve so as to move the drink valve from the closed state to the open state.
7 . The lid assembly of claim 6 , wherein the movable member contacts the movable arm when pressure in the associated drinking container exceeds the predetermined threshold.
8 . The lid assembly of claim 6 , wherein the movable arm is biased toward the drink valve.
9 . The lid assembly of claim 6 , further comprising a vent valve operable in a closed operating state in which an interior of the associated drinking container is isolated from ambient through the vent valve and an open operating state in which the interior of the associated drinking container is in communication with ambient through the vent valve, wherein the vent valve is in the closed operating state when the closing mechanism is in the closed operating position and the vent valve is in the open operating state when the closing mechanism is in the open operating position.
10 . The lid assembly of claim 9 , wherein the movable arm moves toward the vent valve when the closing mechanism is moved from the closed operating position toward the open operating position to deform the vent valve so as to move the vent valve from the closed operating state to the open operating state.
11 . A drinking container lid assembly configured to engage an associated drinking container, the lid assembly comprising:
a lid body including a drink opening; an actuator movable with respect to the lid body; a movable arm operatively connected with the actuator, wherein movement of the actuator results in movement of the movable arm; a drink valve operable in a closed state in which liquid from the associated drinking container is precluded from passing through the drink opening and an open state in which liquid from the associated drinking container is allowed to pass through the drink opening, wherein the drink valve includes a resilient member that is deformed when the movable arm is moved toward the drink valve, which places the drink valve in the open state.
12 . The lid assembly of claim 11 , wherein the drink valve includes a duckbill valve arrangement.
13 . The lid assembly of claim 11 , wherein the drink valve includes a drink valve side wall and drink valve flaps extending inwardly from the drink valve side wall, wherein the drink valve side wall is made from a resilient material such that deformation of the drink valve side wall results in movement of the drink valve flaps to allow liquid to flow through the drink valve.
14 . The lid assembly of claim 11 , further comprising a vent valve operable in a closed operating state in which an interior of the associated drinking container is isolated from ambient through the vent valve and an open operating state in which the interior of the associated drinking container is in communication with ambient through the vent valve.
15 . The lid assembly of claim 14 , wherein the vent valve includes a resilient component that is deformed when the movable arm is moved toward the drink valve, which places the vent valve in the open operating state.
16 . The lid assembly of claim 14 , wherein the vent valve includes a vent valve side wall and vent valve flaps extending inwardly from the vent valve side wall, wherein the vent valve side wall is made from a resilient material such that deformation of the vent valve side wall results in movement of the vent valve flaps to allow the interior of the associated drinking container to communicate with ambient through the vent valve.
17 . The lid assembly of claim 14 , further comprising a valve structure, the valve structure including the drink valve, the vent valve and at least one arm connecting the drink valve with the vent valve.
18 . The lid assembly of claim 11 , further comprising a lower body gasket connected with the lid body, wherein the lower body gasket is made from a resilient material and includes a drink passage structure that defines a drink valve opening in which the drink valve is received, and the movable arm is movable so as to contact the drink passage structure of the lower body gasket.
19 . The lid assembly of claim 18 , wherein the lower body gasket includes a vent passage structure that defines a vent valve opening in which the vent valve is received, and the movable arm is movable so as to contact the vent passage structure of the lower body gasket.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
