Abstract

The present disclosure describes chemopreventative and/or chemotherapeutic compositions for inducing apoptosis in cancer cells which include kale and methods of inducing apoptosis in cancer cells utilizing the chemopreventative and/or chemotherapeutic compositions including kale.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

1 . A chemopreventive composition for inducing apoptosis in cancer cells comprising:
kale juice, and at least one of a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or a surfactant.

2 . The chemopreventive composition of claim 1 , wherein the particle size ranges from about 35 microns to about 200 microns.

3 . The chemopreventive composition of claim 1 , wherein the kale juice is derived from freeze thawed kale.

4 . The chemopreventive composition of claim 3 , wherein the kale juice is derived from a kale selected from the group consisting of curly kale, baby kale, organic kale, kale harvested during seeding time, and combinations thereof.

5 . The chemopreventive composition of claim 4 , wherein the kale juice is derived from curly kale species.

6 . The chemopreventive composition of claim 4 , wherein the kale juice is derived from organic kale.

7 . The chemopreventive composition of claim 1 , wherein the pharmaceutically acceptable carrier is selected from the group consisting of water, saline, Ringer's Lactate solutions and dextrose solution.

8 . The chemopreventive composition of claim 7 , wherein the pharmaceutically acceptable carrier is water.

9 . The chemopreventive composition of claim 1 , wherein the surfactant is selected from the group consisting of sodium lauryl sulfate, ammonium laureth sulfate, disodium lauryl sulfosuccinate, cocamphocarboxyglycinate, cocoamidopropyl betaine, alpha-olefin sulfonate, and combinations thereof.

10 . The chemopreventive composition of claim 9 , wherein the surfactant includes sodium lauryl sulfate.

11 . The chemopreventive composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition comprises a concentration of the kale juice ranging from about 1% by wt to about 90% by wt.

12 . The chemopreventive composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition comprises a concentration of the kale juice below 400 uL/mL.

13 . The chemopreventive composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition is deliverable to the cancer cells in a form selected from the group consisting of intravenously, intramuscularly, subcutaneously, intratumorally, topically, orally, transdermally, sublingually, via nasal inhalation, via oral inhalation, via suppository, and combinations thereof.

14 . The chemopreventive composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition is a topical composition.

15 . The chemopreventive composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition induces apoptosis in cancer cells selected from the group consisting of melanoma cells, breast cancer cells, colon cancer cells, ovarian cancer cells, prostate cancer cells, brain cancer cells, bone cancer cells, bladder cancer cells, testicular cancer cells, thyroid cancer cells, lung cancer cells, liver cancer cells, pancreatic cancer cells, throat cancer cells, and combination thereof.

16 . The chemopreventive composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition induces apoptosis in cancer cells comprising melanoma cells.

17 . The chemopreventive composition of claim 1 , wherein the chemopreventive composition is non-toxic to non-cancerous cells and promotes growth of the non-cancerous cells.

18 . The chemopreventive composition of claim 17 , wherein the non-cancerous cells are epithelial cells.

19 . The chemopreventive composition of claim 1 , further comprising a therapeutic agent.

20 . The chemopreventive composition of claim 1 , further comprising at least one optional ingredient selected from the group consisting of pH-modifiers, emulsifiers, lyposomes, microspheres, beads, viscosity enhancers, humectants, dyes, fragrances, preservatives, and emollients.

21 . A chemopreventive composition for reducing cancerous or precancerous skin lesions comprising:
freeze thawed kale juice, and optionally at least one of a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or a surfactant, wherein the chemopreventive composition is an oral composition.
