Abstract

A method and apparatus for recognizing a fingerprint. The method includes displaying a guide area corresponding to a finger touch in at least one area of a display unit; and providing guide information related to fingerprint recognition based on a touch detected via the guide area. The apparatus includes a display unit configured to display a guide area corresponding to a finger touch in at least one area in a fingerprint mode; an input unit configured to detect a touch input, wherein the input unit is integrally configured with the display unit; a fingerprint scan sensor located in an area adjacent to the guide area of the display unit; and a controller configured to provide guide information related to fingerprint recognition based on a touch detected via the guide area in the fingerprint mode.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A method comprising:
receiving a request for a fingerprint mode; displaying a first guide user interface including a first guide information for guiding fingerprint input on a display; receiving a fingerprint input via a fingerprint sensor; and in response to receiving the fingerprint input, displaying a second guide user interface instead of the first guide user interface on the display, wherein the second guide user interface includes a second guide information for indicating a result of the fingerprint input.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the second guide information includes text to induce retry of the fingerprint input.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first guide information includes a guide area located in at least one area of the display adjacent to the fingerprint sensor.

4 . An electronic apparatus comprising:
a fingerprint sensor; a display; and a controller configured to control operations of:
displaying a first guide user interface including a first guide information for guiding fingerprint input on the display,
receiving a fingerprint input via the fingerprint sensor, and
in response to receiving the fingerprint input, displaying the second guide user interface instead of the first guide user interface on the display,
wherein the second guide user interface includes a second guide information for indicating a result of the fingerprint input.

5 . The electronic apparatus of claim 4 , wherein the second guide information includes text to induce retry of the fingerprint input.

6 . The electronic apparatus of claim 4 , wherein the first guide information includes a guide area located in at least one area of the display adjacent to the fingerprint sensor.

         7 . A portable communication device comprising:
a fingerprint sensor; a touchscreen display disposed in a same side of the electronic device as the fingerprint sensor and including a specified area corresponding to the fingerprint sensor; a memory to store fingerprint information of a specified user; and a processor adapted to:
display a first graphical object indicative of the specified area at the specified area or in proximity of the specified area while the apparatus is in a locked state,
receive, using the fingerprint sensor, a fingerprint input via the specified area,
determine that the fingerprint input corresponds to the stored fingerprint information,
display a second graphical object at the specified area or in proximity of the specified area, in relation with the determining, and
transition the portable communication device from the locked state into an unlocked state based at least in part on the determining.

8 . The portable communication device of claim 7 , wherein the fingerprint sensor comprises an optical type fingerprint sensor.

9 . The portable communication device of claim 7 , wherein the specified area is formed adjacent to a lower end of the touchscreen display.

10 . The portable communication device of claim 7 , wherein the processor is further adapted to:
detect a pressure applied to the specified area while the fingerprint input is received; and displaying the second graphical object based at least in part on a determination that the pressure satisfies a specified condition.

11 . The portable communication device of claim 7 , wherein the processor is further adapted to:
displaying the second graphical object while the fingerprint input is detected.

12 . The portable communication device of claim 7 , wherein the processor is further adapted to:
determine an area touched by a finger based at least in part on a user input.

13 . The portable communication device of claim 12 , wherein the processor is further adapted to:
activate the fingerprint sensor based at least in part on a determination that the touched area satisfies a specified condition.

14 . The portable communication device of claim 12 , wherein the processor is further adapted to:
activate the fingerprint sensor based at least in part on a determination that a major axis of the touched area corresponds to a predetermined axis.

15 . The portable communication device of claim 12 , wherein the processor is further adapted to:
display a third graphical object to request to retry the fingerprint input based at least in part on a determination that the touched area does not satisfies a specified condition.

16 . The portable communication device of claim 7 , wherein the touchscreen display comprises a flexible display including a planar display area visible via a planar surface and a curved display area visible via a curved surface.
