Fast color searching
Abstract
Systems and methods are described to quickly search a data store based on one or more n-dimensional colors. The n-dimensional colors in the data store may be converted to interleaved integers and indexed. An n-dimensional color search range may be converted to one or more integer search ranges. A fast color search query may be formulated based on the one or more integer search ranges, and transmitted to the data store for searching. The data store may use the interleaved integer index to quickly compare the integer search ranges to the interleaved integers, and send back one or more colors or object results that matched the desired color range.

1 . A system comprising:
a data store configured to store an RGB color derived from an image; and a computing device comprising one or more hardware processors and a memory storing computer-executable instructions, the one or more hardware processors configured to execute the computer-executable instructions to at least:
interleave bits of red, green, and blue dimension values of the RGB color, wherein the interleaved bits are interleaved in a repeating pattern of a red bit from the red dimension value, a green bit from the green dimension value, and a blue bit from the blue dimension value from highest order of magnitude to lowest order of magnitude;
generate an integer color value corresponding to a one dimensional color space, the integer color value comprising the interleaved bits;
store the integer color value in the data store as associated with the RGB color; and
index the integer color value and other integer color values in the data store.

The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more hardware processors are further configured to execute the computer-executable instructions to at least interleave the bits of the red, green, and blue dimension values of the RGB color such that an order within a red dimension is preserved, an order within a green dimension is preserved, and an order within a blue dimension is preserved.
3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein a first bit of the integer color value comprises a highest order bit of the green dimension value.
4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein a first bit of the integer color value comprises a lowest order bit of the red dimension value.
5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the RGB color is associated with an object record.
6 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the object record comprises an item record.
7 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the one or more hardware processors are further configured to execute the computer-executable instructions to at least store the integer color value in the data store in association with the object record.
8 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more hardware processors are further configured to execute the computer-executable instructions to at least index a column in a table that stores the integer color value and the other integer color values.
9 . A computer-implemented method comprising:
under control of a hardware computing device configured with specific computer-executable instructions,
interleaving bits of red, green, and blue dimension values of an RGB color derived from an image, wherein the interleaved bits are interleaved in a repeating pattern of a red bit from the red dimension value, a green bit from the green dimension value, and a blue bit from the blue dimension value from highest order of magnitude to lowest order of magnitude;
generating an integer color value corresponding to a one dimensional color space, the integer color value comprising the interleaved bits;
storing the integer color value in association with the RGB color; and
indexing the integer color value and other integer color values.

The computer-implemented method of claim 9 , wherein interleaving bits of red, green, and blue dimension values of an RGB color derived from an image further comprises interleaving the bits of the red, green, and blue dimension values of the RGB color such that an order within a red dimension is preserved, an order within a green dimension is preserved, and an order within a blue dimension is preserved.
11 . The computer-implemented method of claim 9 , wherein a first bit of the integer color value comprises a highest order bit of the green dimension value.
12 . The computer-implemented method of claim 9 , wherein a first bit of the integer color value comprises a lowest order bit of the red dimension value.
13 . The computer-implemented method of claim 9 , wherein the RGB color is associated with an object record.
14 . The computer-implemented method of claim 13 , wherein storing the integer color value in association with the RGB color further comprises storing the integer color value in association with the object record.
15 . The computer-implemented method of claim 9 , wherein indexing the integer color value and other integer color values further comprises indexing a column in a table that stores the integer color value and the other integer color values.
16 . A non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing computer-executable instructions that when executed by a processor perform operations comprising:
interleaving bits of first, second, and third dimension values of an n-dimensional color derived from an image, wherein the interleaved bits are interleaved in a repeating pattern of a first bit from the first dimension value, a second bit from the second dimension value, and a third bit from the third dimension value from highest order of magnitude to lowest order of magnitude; generating an integer color value corresponding to a one dimensional color space, the integer color value comprising the interleaved bits; storing the integer color value in association with the n-dimensional color; and indexing the integer color value and other integer color values.

The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 16 , wherein the operations further comprise interleaving the bits of the first, second, and third dimension values of the n-dimensional color such that an order within a first dimension is preserved, an order within a second dimension is preserved, and an order within a third dimension is preserved.
18 . The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 16 , wherein a first bit of the integer color value comprises a highest order bit of the second dimension value.
19 . The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 16 , wherein a first bit of the integer color value comprises a lowest order bit of the first dimension value.
