Abstract
A computer implemented method and computer program product for pro-active message acknowledgment collection for improved data link performance over reliable transport media in a satellite-based global telecommunications network includes sending a message over reliable transport media in a satellite-based global telecommunications network and pro-actively collecting a message receipt acknowledgement. In an aspect of the embodiment, the method can further include pro-actively collecting the message receipt acknowledgement after a message alert notification has not been received. In another aspect of the embodiment, the method can further include pro-actively collecting the message receipt acknowledgement a single time. In yet another aspect of the embodiment, the method can include setting a message alert timeout counter timer.

sending a message over reliable transport media in a satellite-based global telecommunications network; and pro-actively collecting a message receipt acknowledgement.

pro-actively collecting the message receipt acknowledgement after a message alert notification has not been received.

pro-actively collecting the message receipt acknowledgement a single time.

setting a message alert timeout counter timer.
5 . The computer implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:
determining when to pro-actively collect the message receipt acknowledgement based on the message alert timeout counter timer that is started after the successful transmission of the message over the reliable transport media in a satellite-based global telecommunications network.
6 . The computer implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the reliable transport medium is a short burst data (SBD) transport media.
7 . The computer implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:
determining if a message alert notification was transmitted by the satellite-based global telecommunications network.
8 . The computer implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:
forwarding a message receipt acknowledgement of a service provider to a message client.
9 . The computer implemented method of claim 8 , further comprising:
upon forwarding the message receipt acknowledgement of a service provider to the message client, disabling a resend timeout counter of the message client.
10 . A computer program product for pro-active message acknowledgment collection for improved data link performance over reliable transport media in a satellite-based global telecommunications network, the computer program product comprising:
a computer readable storage medium storing therein computer readable program code embodied therewith, the computer readable program code comprising: computer readable program code for receiving a message from a message client; computer readable program code for sending a message over reliable transport media in a satellite-based global telecommunications network; computer readable program code for validating the success of the bi-directional transaction; and computer readable program code for pro-actively collecting a message receipt acknowledgement.
11 . The computer program product of claim 10 , further comprising:
computer readable program code for pro-actively collecting the message receipt acknowledgement after a message alert notification has not been received.
12 . The computer program product of claim 10 , further comprising:
computer readable program code for pro-actively collecting the message receipt acknowledgement a single time.
13 . The computer program product of claim 10 , further comprising:
computer readable program code for receiving a message from a message client.
14 . The computer program product of claim 10 , further comprising:
computer readable program code for setting a message alert timeout counter timer.
15 . The computer program product of claim 10 , further comprising:
computer readable program code for determining when to pro-actively collect the message receipt acknowledgement based on the message alert timeout counter timer that is started after the successful transmission of the message over the reliable transport media in a satellite-based global telecommunications network.
16 . The computer program product of claim 10 , wherein the reliable transport medium is a short burst data (SBD) transport media.
17 . The computer program product of claim 10 , further comprising:
computer readable program code for determining if a message alert notification was transmitted by the satellite-based global telecommunications network.

computer readable program code for forwarding a message receipt acknowledgement of a service provider to a message client.
19 . The computer implemented method of claim 18 , further comprising:
