Coffee Maker

Abstract

A drip filter coffee making device has a filter basket with a lid. The lid supports a water dispenser for wetting grounds in the filter basket. The basket is removable from a body of the device. The lid may have a dampened opening motion, biased into an open positon by a spring.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A drip filter coffee making device having a body that supports a filter basket, wherein:
 the filter basket has a lid and the lid is biased into an open position by a spring and retained in a closed position by a latch mechanism;   an opening of the lid into the open position being resisted by a damping mechanism carried by the filter basket.   
     
     
         2 . The device of  claims 1 , wherein:
 the lid is affixed to a hinge spindle, the hinge spindle acting on the damping mechanism.   
     
     
         3 . The device of  claim 2 , wherein:
 the hinge spindle has a through opening in a sidewall and a second opening in a proximal end;   a water carrying tube passing through the proximal end and the through opening and being connected at one end to a water dispenser carried on an underside of the id.   
     
     
         4 . The device of any one of  claims 1 - 3 , wherein:
 the filter basket is removable form the body.   
     
     
         5 . A drip filter coffee making device having a body that supports a filter basket with a hinged lid, wherein:
 an underside of the lid supports a water dispenser;   the filter basket being removable and comprising a first fluid coupling half that engages and disengages a cooperating second fluid coupling half carried by the body.   
     
     
         6 . The device of  claim 5 , wherein:
 the second coupling half is advanced toward and retracted from the first coupling half by a lever mechanism.   
     
     
         7 . The device of  claim 6 , wherein:
 the lever mechanism is activated by the filter basket.   
     
     
         8 . The device of any one of  claims 1 - 7 , wherein:
 the filter basket has a drip stop valve that is actuated by a pin that is driven by a cam rotated by an electric motor that is carried by the body.   
     
     
         9 . The device of any one of  claims 1 - 4 , wherein:
 the filter basket receives a removable filter adapter insert.   
     
     
         10 . The device of anyone of  claims 1 - 7 , wherein:
 the filter basket has a drip stop valve having an actuating head that is fully recessed with respect to a lower rim of the filter basket.   
     
     
         11 . The device of  claim 10 , further comprising:
 a carafe having a reciprocating activator through which fluid dispensed by the drip stop valve flows into an interior of the carafe.   
     
     
         12 . The device of  claim 11 , wherein:
 The reciprocating activator seals the interior when at rest and allows flow when engaged with the actuating head.   
     
     
         13 . The device of either of  claim 11  or  12 , wherein:
 the carafe is insulated. 
 
     
     
         14 . The device is any one of  claims 11 - 13 , wherein:
 the carafe incorporated an air inlet check valve.
