Light sources incorporating light emitting diodes

Abstract

Taught herein are various light sources using light emitting diodes. A light source includes a housing, a connector configured for connection to an electrical socket and coupled to an end of the housing, at least one organic light emitting diode sheet mounted inside the housing and in electrical communication with the connector, and a power supply circuit for supplying electrical current to the at least one organic light emitting diode through the connector.

         2 . A light tube comprising:
 a tubular housing portion; and   an organic light emitting diode sheet disposed along an inner periphery of the housing portion.   
     
     
         3 . The light tube of  claim 2 , wherein the organic light emitting diode sheet comprises a substrate. 
     
     
         4 . The light tube of  claim 3 , wherein the substrate comprises a metal foil. 
     
     
         5 . The light tube of  claim 3 , wherein the substrate comprises a plastic. 
     
     
         6 . The light tube of  claim 3 , wherein the organic light emitting diode sheet comprises one or more arrays printed on the substrate. 
     
     
         7 . The lighting device comprising:
 an Edison screw connector;   a ballast portion;   a bulbous housing portion;   a circuit board coupled to the ballast and extending from the ballast into the housing portion; and   a plurality of light emitting diodes mounted on the circuit board.   
     
     
         8 . The lighting device of  claim 7 , wherein the plurality of light emitting diodes are mounted to opposing sides of the circuit board. 
     
     
         9 . The lighting device of  claim 7 , wherein the housing portion encloses a portion of potting material. 
     
     
         10 . The lighting device of  claim 9 , wherein the portion of potting material is tinted. 
     
     
         11 . The lighting device of  claim 7 , further comprising control electronics disposed within the ballast portion.
