Abstract

In accordance with some embodiments, a cloud service provider may operate a data center in a way that dynamically reallocates resources across nodes within the data center based on both utilization and service level agreements. In other words, the allocation of resources may be adjusted dynamically based on current conditions. The current conditions in the data center may be a function of the nature of all the current workloads. Instead of simply managing the workloads in a way to increase overall execution efficiency, the data center instead may manage the workload to achieve quality of service requirements for particular workloads according to service level agreements.

         32 . A processing apparatus, comprising:
 one or more processing devices to:
 receive data representative of utilization of one or more computing resources shared by multiple virtual execution environments in a multi-core computing platform, wherein the one or more computing resources includes cache resources; 
 identify at least one of the computing resources to reallocate from a first virtual execution environment to a second virtual execution environment based at least in part on the data and a quality of service value; and 
 cause the at least one of the computing resources to be reallocated from the first virtual execution environment to the second virtual execution environment, wherein causing the at least one of the computing resources to be reallocated from the first virtual execution environment to the second virtual execution environment includes causing reallocation of resources within a cache from the first virtual execution environment to the second virtual execution environment. 
   
     
     
         33 . The processing apparatus of  claim 32 , wherein the first virtual execution environment is a virtual machine. 
     
     
         34 . The processing apparatus of  claim 32 , wherein the data includes cache misses. 
     
     
         35 . The processing apparatus of  claim 32 , wherein the one or more computing resources includes memory bandwidth.

The processing apparatus of  claim 32 , wherein the one or more processing devices are to operate a virtual machine monitor, and the virtual machine monitor is to receive the data, identify the at least one of the computing resources to reallocate, and cause the at least one of the computing resources to be reallocated. 
     
     
         37 . The processing apparatus of  claim 32 , wherein the multi-core computing platform is part of a data center.

The processing apparatus of  claim 32 , wherein the one or more processing devices to identify the at least one of the computing resources to reallocate include one or more processing devices to identify a relative priority of the first virtual execution environment and the second virtual execution environment. 
     
     
         39 . The processing apparatus of  claim 32 , wherein identify the at least one of the computing resources to reallocates includes compare cache misses of the first virtual execution environment and cache misses of the second virtual execution environment. 
     
     
         40 . The processing apparatus of  claim 32 , wherein the one or more computing resources includes memory capacity. 
     
     
         41 . The processing apparatus of  claim 32 , wherein the data is received from hardware monitors. 
     
     
         42 . The processing apparatus of  claim 32 , further comprising:
 one or more sockets in which the one or more processing devices are disposed.   
     
     
         43 . The processing apparatus of  claim 42 , wherein the processing apparatus includes a rack server, and the rack server includes the one or more sockets. 
     
     
         44 . The processing apparatus of  claim 32 , wherein the processing apparatus includes a rack server. 
     
     
         45 . One or more non-transitory computer readable media having instructions thereon that, in response to execution by one or more processing devices of an apparatus, cause the apparatus to:
 receive data representative of utilization of one or more computing resources shared by multiple virtual execution environments in a multi-core computing platform, wherein the one or more computing resources includes cache resources;   identify at least one of the computing resources to reallocate from a first virtual execution environment to a second virtual execution environment based at least in part on the data and a quality of service value; and   cause the at least one of the computing resources to be reallocated from the first virtual execution environment to the second virtual execution environment, wherein causing the at least one of the computing resources to be reallocated from the first virtual execution environment to the second virtual execution environment includes causing reallocation of resources within a cache from the first virtual execution environment to the second virtual execution environment.   
     
     
         46 . The one or more non-transitory computer readable media of  claim 45 , wherein the first virtual execution environment is a virtual machine.

 a storage device; and   one or more processing devices, coupled to the storage device, to:
 receive data representative of utilization of one or more computing resources shared by multiple virtual execution environments in a multi-core computing platform, wherein the one or more computing resources includes cache resources; 
 identify at least one of the computing resources to reallocate from a first virtual execution environment to a second virtual execution environment based at least in part on the data and a quality of service value; and 
 cause the at least one of the computing resources to be reallocated from the first virtual execution environment to the second virtual execution environment, wherein causing the at least one of the computing resources to be reallocated from the first virtual execution environment to the second virtual execution environment includes causing reallocation of resources within a cache from the first virtual execution environment to the second virtual execution environment.

The server apparatus of  claim 55 , wherein the first virtual execution environment is associated with a first core of the multi-core computing platform, the second virtual execution environment is associated with a second core of the multi-core computing platform, and the second core is different from the first core.
