Abstract
A golf club head including a multi-piece construction. The golf club head includes a plurality of body components coupled at a seam. A weight member is coupled to the golf club head so that it overlaps a seam.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A golf club head, comprising:
a hosel; a ball striking face member; a sole member extending aftward from a lower edge of the face member, wherein the sole member defines a perimeter edge and includes a recess in the perimeter edge; a crown member extending aftward from an upper edge of the face member, wherein the crown member defines a perimeter edge and includes a recess in the perimeter edge, wherein the perimeter edge of the crown member is coupled to the perimeter edge of the sole member to form a seam, and wherein the recess in the perimeter edge of the crown combines with the recess in the perimeter edge of the sole to form a weight aperture; and a weight member, wherein the weight member includes a portion that extends into an interior cavity of the golf club head through the weight aperture, wherein the weight member is coupled to at least one of the sole member and the crown member.
2 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the sole member includes a plurality of recesses in the perimeter edge of the sole member, wherein the crown member includes a plurality of recesses in the perimeter edge of the crown member, and wherein the recesses in the perimeter edge of the crown member combine with the recesses in the perimeter edge of the sole member to form a plurality of weight apertures.
3 . The golf club head of claim 2 , wherein the weight member includes a plurality of posts that extend into the plurality of weight apertures.
4 . The golf club head of claim 3 , wherein the posts are welded to at least one of the sole member and the crown member.
5 . The golf club head of claim 4 , wherein the posts are welded to both the sole member and the crown member.
6 . The golf club head of claim 3 , wherein the posts include an end having an outer dimension greater than the inner dimension of the weight aperture to provide a riveted connection of the weight member to the golf club head.
7 . The golf club head of claim 2 , wherein the golf club head includes a plurality of weight members, wherein a weight member is coupled to each of the plurality of weight apertures.
8 . The golf club head of claim 7 , wherein each of the plurality of weight members includes an exposed body and a flange, wherein the flange forms an elongate undercut dovetail member and extends through the weight aperture, and wherein the flange is captured by the weight aperture.
9 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the weight member includes an exposed body and a flange, wherein the flange forms an undercut and extends through the weight aperture, and the flange is captured in the weight aperture.
10 . The golf club head of claim 9 , wherein the flange forms an elongate undercut dovetail member.
11 . The golf club head of claim 9 wherein the exposed body overlaps a portion of the seam.
12 . A golf club head, comprising:
a face member that defines a face, a hosel, and a transition that extends rearward from a perimeter of the face and forms a portion of each of a crown, a sole and a skirt of the assembled golf club head, wherein the face member forms a face cup; a sole member extending aftward from a lower edge of the face member, wherein the sole member defines a perimeter edge and includes a plurality of recesses in the perimeter edge; a crown member extending aftward from an upper edge of the face member, wherein the crown member defines a perimeter edge and includes a plurality of recesses in the perimeter edge, wherein the perimeter edge of the crown member is coupled to the perimeter edge of the sole member to form a seam, and wherein each of the plurality of recesses in the perimeter edge of the crown combines with at least one of the plurality of recesses in the perimeter edge of the sole to form a weight aperture; and at least one weight member, wherein the at least one weight member includes a portion that extends into an interior cavity of the golf club head through the weight aperture, wherein the at least one weight member is coupled to at least one of the sole member and the crown member.
13 . The golf club head of claim 12 , wherein the at least one weight member includes a plurality of posts that extend into the plurality of weight apertures.
14 . The golf club head of claim 13 , wherein the posts are welded to at least one of the sole member and the crown member.
15 . The golf club head of claim 14 , wherein the posts are welded to both the sole member and the crown member.
16 . The golf club head of claim 13 , wherein the posts include an end having an outer dimension greater than the inner dimension of the weight aperture to provide a riveted connection of the weight member to the golf club head.
17 . The golf club head of claim 12 , wherein the golf club head includes a plurality of weight members, wherein a weight member is coupled to each of the plurality of weight apertures.
18 . The golf club head of claim 17 , wherein each of the plurality of weight members includes an exposed body and a flange, wherein the flange forms an elongate undercut member and extends through the weight aperture, and wherein the flange is captured by the weight aperture.
19 . The golf club head of claim 12 , wherein the at least one weight member includes an exposed body and a flange, wherein the flange forms an elongate undercut member and extends through the weight aperture, and wherein the flange is captured by the weight aperture.
20 . The golf club head of claim 19 , wherein the flange forms an elongate undercut dovetail member.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
