System and method for facilitating secure self payment transactions of retail goods
Abstract
Disclosed herein are various embodiments for systems and methods for self-payment and verification of the purchase of retail goods and services. According to an embodiment of the invention, a method for verifying the purchase using a mobile electronic device in wireless communication with a payment verification system and a code generating system is provided, the method comprising the steps of: receiving from a consumer information identifying an item for purchase.; receiving from a consumer information identifying payment means for purchasing the item for purchase; processing the information identifying the item for purchase and information identifying payment means and generating a unique QR code indicating a purchase of the item; sending the unique QR code to a mobile device for display by a consumer to the vendor of the item for purchase.

8 . A method for the in-store selection and purchase of goods and service, wherein the steps of the method are implemented by a consumer's mobile device, the method comprising the following steps:
obtaining a product identifier of an item; sending a query to a remote server for product information relating to the item, the query including the product identifier; receiving a response to the query, the response including product information for the item; processing a request from the consumer to add the item to a list of goods or services to be purchased by the consumer; receiving a set of data identifying payment means for the purchase of the goods or services; transmitting to a remote server a request to purchase the goods and services, wherein the request includes identifying information for the goods or services to be purchased, a consumer identifier, and the set of data identifying payment means; receiving a response from the remote server authorizing the purchase of the goods and services, the response including a token that uniquely corresponds to the consumer's purchase of the goods or services; and providing the token to a retailer electronic device as verification of the consumer's in-store purchase of the goods and services.
9 . The method of claim 8 wherein the product information includes restrictions associated with the item, wherein the step of processing a request from the consumer to add the item to a list of items to be purchased in-store by the customer comprises:
processing the restrictions associated with the item to determine if the item can be added to the list of items to be purchased, and
notifying the consumer if the restrictions do not permit the consumer to add the item to the list of items to be purchased.
10 . The method of claim 8 wherein the step of processing a request from the consumer to add the item to a list of items to be purchased in-store by the customer comprises determining if the addition would exceed transaction limits.
11 . The method of claim 8 wherein the step of processing a request from the consumer to add the item to a list of items to be purchased in-store by the customer comprises determining if the addition would exceed item value limits.
12 . The method of claim 8 wherein the product information includes information concerning anti-theft tags for the item, and further comprising the step of notifying the consumer of the need to request anti-theft tag deactivation.
13 . The method of claim 8 wherein the step of providing the token to a retailer electronic device as verification of the consumer's in-store purchase of the goods and services comprises displaying a representation of the token on a display of the mobile device for capture by the retailer electronic device.
14 . The method of claim 11 wherein the representation of the token is in the form of a quick response (“QR”) code.
15 . The method of claim 8 wherein the step of providing the token to a retailer electronic device as verification of the consumer's in-store purchase of the goods and services comprises the steps of:
establishing a wireless connection with the retailer electronic device; and
wirelessly transmitting the token to the retailer electronic device.
16 . The method of claim 13 wherein the wireless connection is in the form of a near-field communication (NFC) connection.
17 . The method of claim 8 wherein the response to the query further includes item suggestions, wherein said item suggestions are determined based on consumer profile data.
18 . The method of claim 8 further comprising the step of prompting the consumer to enter at least one of the following prior to the step of transmitting to a remote server a request to purchase the goods and services: a personal PIN, a password, and a unique identifier.
19 . The method of claim 8 further comprising the steps of:
detecting if the mobile device is in or near a participating retailer;
displaying a notification that the consumer is in or near the retailer.
20 . The method of claim 8 further comprising the step of displaying on a display of the mobile device the product information, where the product information includes a price of the item.
21 . The method of claim 8 wherein the step of obtaining a product identifier of an item comprises optically scanning a representation of the product identifier.
22 . The method of claim 8 wherein the step of obtaining a product identifier of an item comprises capturing an image of the item.
23 . The method of claim 8 wherein the request to purchase the goods and service further comprises a device identifier for authentication purposes.
24 . The method of claim 8 further comprising the step of confirming receipt of the token.
25 . A method for the in-store selection and purchase of goods and service, wherein the steps of the method are implemented by a consumer's mobile device, the method comprising the following steps:
obtaining a product identifier of an item; sending a query to a remote server for product information relating to the item, the query including the product identifier; receiving a response to the query, the response including product information for the item; processing a request from the consumer to add the item to a list of goods or services to be purchased by the consumer; receiving a set of data identifying payment means for the purchase of the goods or services; transmitting to a remote server a request to purchase the goods and services, wherein the request includes identifying information for the goods or services to be purchased, a consumer identifier, and the set of data identifying payment means; receiving a response from the remote server authorizing the purchase of the goods and services, the response including a token that uniquely corresponds to the consumer's purchase of the goods or services, and the response further indicating whether a spot check is necessary for the consumer's purchase of the goods or services; displaying an indication to the consumer regarding whether the consumer may leave the store.
26 . The method of claim 22 further comprising the steps of:
determining if the mobile device is located within the retailer store; and
transmitting location information to the server upon leaving a designated area in order to indicate that the consumer has left the store since purchasing the goods and services.
27 . A method for the in-store selection and purchase of goods and service, wherein the steps of the method are implemented by a consumer's mobile device, the method comprising the following steps:
obtaining a product identifier of an item; sending a query to a remote server for product information relating to the item, the query including the product identifier; receiving a response to the query, the response including product information for the item; processing a request from the consumer to add the item to a list of goods or services to be purchased by the consumer; receiving a set of data identifying payment means for the purchase of the goods or services; transmitting to a remote server a request to purchase the goods and services, wherein the request includes identifying information for the goods or services to be purchased, a consumer identifier, and the set of data identifying payment means; receiving a response from the remote server authorizing the purchase of the goods and services, the response including a token that uniquely corresponds to the consumer's purchase of the goods or services; and transmitting a request to a store inventory database to deactivate anti-theft tags associated with the goods or services.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
