Task management from within a data feed
Abstract
A system, computer-readable storage medium, and computer-implemented method for assigning a task based on content presented in a data feed are presented. A data feed that includes a set of content items is presented. Each of the content items included in the data feed may include a graphical user interface element capable of invoking task assignment functionality with respect to each content item. A task based on a content item presented in the data feed may be created and assigned to a selected user in response to receiving a selection of the graphical user interface element. The method may further include generating an individual status report for the user that includes every task assigned to the user.

21 . A system comprising
one or more computer processors; one or more computer memories; one or more instructions incorporated into the one or more computer memories via a computer-implemented deployment process, the one or more instructions configuring the one or more computer processors to perform operations for invoking a task assignment functionality of a graphical user interface (GUI) element associated with a particular content item of a set of content items directed to a group of users, the operations comprising:
presenting a data feed including the set of content items directed to the group of users;
presenting the graphical user interface (GUI) element for the invoking of the task assignment functionality;
receiving user input that includes a selection of the GUI element and an identifier of a particular user of the group of users; and
responsive to receiving the user input, assigning a task to the particular user, the task based on the particular content item.
22 . The system of claim 21 , the operations further comprising:
generating an individual status report including a list of tasks assigned to the particular user of the group of users; and providing the individual status report to the particular user of the group of users.
23 . The system of claim 22 , wherein the status report in an indicator of the status of each task of the list of tasks.
24 . The system of claim 23 , wherein the indicator is variable in color, and wherein the color of the indicator indicates the status.
25 . The system of claim 23 , wherein the status of each task is received from the particular user of the group of users.
26 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the group of users belong to a common organization within a company.
27 . The system of claim 26 , the operations further comprising:
generating a project status report including a list of tasks assigned to the group of users, the list of tasks including the task assigned to the particular user; and presenting the project status report to a manager of the organization.
28 . The system of claim 27 , wherein each task of the list of tasks is associated with a common project, and wherein the project status report includes a status indicator for the project.
29 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the assigning the task based on the particular content item comprises:
determining a title of the task based on the content item; identifying one or more temporal attributes of the task; generating a task object, the task object being a data structure including the title and the one or more temporal attributes; and storing the task object as part of member data of the particular user.
30 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the set of content items includes text pertaining to tasks of a particular project.
31 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the data feed further provides additional GUI elements to provide feedback pertaining to the set of content items.
32 . A method comprising:
incorporating one or more instructions into one or more computer memories via a computer-implemented deployment process, the one or more instructions configuring one or more computer processors to perform operations for invoking a task assignment functionality of a graphical user interface (GUI) element associated with a particular content item of a set of content items directed to a group of users, the operations comprising:
presenting a data feed including the set of content items directed to the group of users;
presenting the graphical user interface (GUI) element for the invoking of the task assignment functionality;
receiving user input that includes a selection of the GUI element and an identifier of a particular user of the group of users; and
responsive to receiving the user input, assigning a task to the particular user, the task based on the particular content item.
33 . The method of claim 32 , the operations further comprising:
generating an individual status report including a list of tasks assigned to the particular user of the group of users; and providing the individual status report to the particular user of the group of users.
34 . The method of claim 33 , wherein the status report includes an indicator of the status of each task of the list of tasks.
35 . The method of claim 34 , wherein the indicator is variable in color, and wherein the color of the indicator indicates the status.
36 . The method of claim 34 , wherein the status of each task is received from the particular user of the group of users.
37 . The method of claim 31 , wherein the group of users belong to a common organization within a company.
38 . The method of claim 37 , the operations further comprising:
generating a project status report including a list of tasks assigned to the group of users, the list of tasks including the task assigned to the particular user; and presenting the project status report to a manager of the organization.
39 . The method of claim 38 , wherein each task of the list of tasks is associated with a common project, and wherein the project status report includes a status indicator for the project.
40 . A non-transitory machine-readable storage medium embodying instructions that, when executed by one or more computer processors, cause the one or more computer processors to perform operations for invoking a task assignment functionality of a graphical user interface (GUI) element associated with a particular content item of a set of content items directed to a group of users, the operations comprising:
presenting a data feed including the set of content items directed to the group of users; presenting the graphical user interface (GUI) element for the invoking of the task assignment functionality; receiving user input that includes a selection of the GUI element and an identifier of a particular user of the group of users; and responsive to receiving the user input, assigning a task to the particular user, the task based on the particular content item.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
