System And Method For Relicensing Content
Abstract
A method of relicensing digital encrypted radio media content transmitted via a network and received by a user electronic device includes receiving a request to relicense an encrypted digital media data file included within digital encrypted radio media content. The encrypted digital media data file is retrieved from the digital encrypted radio media content stored in a memory of the user electronic device. The encrypted digital media data file is decrypted using a radio encryption key to generate an unbound digital media data file. The unbound digital media data file is bound with the user electronic device to generate a bound encrypted digital media data file. The bound encrypted digital media data file is stored in the memory of the user electronic device.

22 . A cellular client electronic device that is capable, when the cellular client electronic device is in operation, of wirelessly communicating with a remote server system via an Internet network, the cellular client electronic device comprising:
an antenna assembly for use, at least in part, in wireless communication with the remote server system via the Internet network, when the cellular client electronic device is in the operation; a display subsystem; a processor; storage capable of storing, at least in part, client application instructions that are capable of being executed, at least in part, by the processor, the client application instructions, when executed, at least in part, by the processor resulting, at least in part, in the cellular client electronic device being capable of performing operations comprising:
receiving, at least in part, via a user interface of the cellular client electronic device, at least one user input that requests, at least in part, accessing of a media playlist stored, at least in part, in the cellular client electronic device and/or in the remote server system, the media playlist being capable of comprising media data items that are to be played at the cellular client electronic device in a sequence defined, at least in part, by the media playlist, the media data items being capable of comprising a media data item and another media data item, the media data item to be stored, at least in part, in the storage, the another media data item to be stored, at least in part, at the remote server system, the another media data item being unavailable for retrieval, at least in part, from the storage for playing by the cellular client electronic device;
displaying, at least in part, via the display subsystem, the media playlist; and
receiving, at least in part, via the user interface, at least one additional user input that requests playing, at least in part, of the media playlist, the playing, at least in part, of the media playlist being capable of being based, at least in part, upon:
at least one media stream to be received, at least in part, from the remote server system via the Internet network, for use in the playing of the media playlist, the at least one media stream to correspond, at least in part, to the another media data item;
wherein:
the at least one media stream is to be provided, at least in part, by the remote server system to the cellular client electronic device based, at least in part, upon whether a user associated with the cellular client electronic device is a subscriber of a service associated, at least in part, with the remote server system;
the cellular client electronic device is capable, when the cellular client electronic device is in the operation, of obtaining, at least in part, the media data item from the storage for use in the playing of the media playlist;
the another media data item is capable of being downloaded, at least in part, from the remote server system for storing, at least in part, in the storage, the another media data item when stored in the storage being usable by the user only so long as the user remains subscribed to the service;
the cellular client electronic device also is capable, when the cellular client electronic device is in the operation, of executing an operating system.
23 . The cellular client electronic device of claim 22 , wherein:
the storage comprises flash storage; the operating system is based, at least in part, upon a Linux operating system; the media data item and the another media data item comprise media tracks.
24 . The cellular client electronic device of claim 22 , wherein:
the cellular client electronic device is capable, when the cellular client electronic device is in the operation, of wirelessly receiving at least one portion of the at least one media stream from the remote server system only while an active communication connection exists between the cellular client electronic device and the remote server system, the at least one portion of the at least one media stream to be stored temporarily in the storage.
25 . The cellular client electronic device of claim 22 , wherein:
the cellular client electronic device is capable, when the cellular client electronic device is in the operation, of displaying, via the display subsystem, respective icons in association with respective media data items in the media playlist; the respective icons are to indicate whether the respective media data items are stored in the remote server system or in the cellular client electronic device.
26 . The cellular client electronic device of claim 22 , wherein:
the media playlist is capable of being associated with at least one user selected genre, the at least one user selected genre being at least one of a plurality possible genres; and the remote server system is capable of storing:
respective users' musical preference data;
metadata associated with the media data items of the media playlist; and
listening trend data.
27 . The cellular client electronic device of claim 22 , wherein:
the cellular client electronic device comprises:
a cellular telephone;
personal data assistant device; and/or
wireless email device.
28 . The cellular client electronic device of claim 22 , wherein:
the display subsystem comprises a liquid crystal display or a light emitting diode display.

A method implemented, at least in part, using a cellular client electronic device that is capable, when the cellular client electronic device is in operation, of wirelessly communicating with a remote server system via an Internet network, the cellular client electronic device comprising an antenna assembly for use, at least in part, in wireless communication with the remote server system via the Internet network, when the cellular client electronic device is in the operation, the cellular client electronic device also comprising a display subsystem, a processor, and storage, the method comprising:
executing, at least in part, by the processor, client application instructions stored, at least in part, in the storage, the executing, at least in part, of the client application instructions resulting, at least in part, in the cellular client electronic device being capable of performing operations comprising:
receiving, at least in part, via a user interface of the cellular client electronic device, at least one user input that requests, at least in part, accessing of a media playlist stored, at least in part, in the cellular client electronic device and/or in the remote server system, the media playlist being capable of comprising media data items that are to be played at the cellular client electronic device in a sequence defined, at least in part, by the media playlist, the media data items being capable of comprising a media data item and another media data item, the media data item to be stored, at least in part, in the storage, the another media data item to be stored, at least in part, at the remote server system, the another media data item being unavailable for retrieval, at least in part, from the storage for playing by the cellular client electronic device;
displaying, at least in part, via the display subsystem, the media playlist; and
receiving, at least in part, via the user interface, at least one additional user input that requests playing, at least in part, of the media playlist, the playing, at least in part, of the media playlist being capable of being based, at least in part, upon:
at least one media stream to be received, at least in part, from the remote server system via the Internet network, for use in the playing of the media playlist, the at least one media stream to correspond, at least in part, to the another media data item;
wherein:
the at least one media stream is to be provided, at least in part, by the remote server system to the cellular client electronic device based, at least in part, upon whether a user associated with the cellular client electronic device is a subscriber of a service associated, at least in part, with the remote server system;
the cellular client electronic device is capable, when the cellular client electronic device is in the operation, of obtaining, at least in part, the media data item from the storage for use in the playing of the media playlist;
the another media data item is capable of being downloaded, at least in part, from the remote server system for storing, at least in part, in the storage, the another media data item when stored in the storage being usable by the user only so long as the user remains subscribed to the service;
the cellular client electronic device also is capable, when the cellular client electronic device is in the operation, of executing an operating system.
30 . The method of claim 29 , wherein:
the storage comprises flash storage; the operating system is based, at least in part, upon a Linux operating system; and the media data item and the another media data item comprise media tracks.
31 . The method of claim 29 , wherein:
the cellular client electronic device is capable, when the cellular client electronic device is in the operation, of wirelessly receiving at least one portion of the at least one media stream from the remote server system only while an active communication connection exists between the cellular client electronic device and the remote server system, the at least one portion of the at least one media stream to be stored temporarily in the storage.
32 . The method of claim 29 , wherein:
the cellular client electronic device is capable, when the cellular client electronic device is in the operation, of displaying, via the display subsystem, respective icons in association with respective media data items in the media playlist; and the respective icons are to indicate whether the respective media data items are stored in the remote server system or in the cellular client electronic device.
33 . The method of claim 29 , wherein:
the media playlist is capable of being associated with at least one user selected genre, the at least one user selected genre being at least one of a plurality possible genres; and the remote server system is capable of storing:
respective users' musical preference data;
metadata associated with the media data items of the media playlist; and
listening trend data.
34 . The method of claim 29 , wherein:
the cellular client electronic device comprises:
a cellular telephone;
personal data assistant device; and/or
wireless email device.
35 . The method of claim 29 , wherein:
the display subsystem comprises a liquid crystal display or a light emitting diode display.

At least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing client application instructions for execution, at least in part, by a processor of a cellular client electronic device, the cellular client electronic device being capable, when the cellular client electronic device is in operation, of wirelessly communicating with a remote server system via an Internet network, the cellular client electronic device comprising an antenna assembly for use, at least in part, in wireless communication with the remote server system via the Internet network, when the cellular client electronic device is in the operation, the cellular client electronic device also comprising a display subsystem, a processor, and storage, the client application instructions when executed, at least in part, by the processor resulting in the cellular client electronic device being capable of performing operations comprising:
receiving, at least in part, via a user interface of the cellular client electronic device, at least one user input that requests, at least in part, accessing of a media playlist stored, at least in part, in the cellular client electronic device and/or in the remote server system, the media playlist being capable of comprising media data items that are to be played at the cellular client electronic device in a sequence defined, at least in part, by the media playlist, the media data items being capable of comprising a media data item and another media data item, the media data item to be stored, at least in part, in the storage, the another media data item to be stored, at least in part, at the remote server system, the another media data item being unavailable for retrieval, at least in part, from the storage for playing by the cellular client electronic device;
displaying, at least in part, via the display subsystem, the media playlist; and
receiving, at least in part, via the user interface, at least one additional user input that requests playing, at least in part, of the media playlist, the playing, at least in part, of the media playlist being capable of being based, at least in part, upon:
at least one media stream to be received, at least in part, from the remote server system via the Internet network, for use in the playing of the media playlist, the at least one media stream to correspond, at least in part, to the another media data item;
wherein:
the at least one media stream is to be provided, at least in part, by the remote server system to the cellular client electronic device based, at least in part, upon whether a user associated with the cellular client electronic device is a subscriber of a service associated, at least in part, with the remote server system;
the cellular client electronic device is capable, when the cellular client electronic device is in the operation, of obtaining, at least in part, the media data item from the storage for use in the playing of the media playlist;
the another media data item is capable of being downloaded, at least in part, from the remote server system for storing, at least in part, in the storage, the another media data item when stored in the storage being usable by the user only so long as the user remains subscribed to the service;
the cellular client electronic device also is capable, when the cellular client electronic device is in the operation, of executing an operating system.
37 . The at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 36 , wherein:
the storage comprises flash storage; the operating system is based, at least in part, upon a Linux operating system; and the media data item and the another media data item comprise media tracks.
38 . The at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 36 , wherein:
the cellular client electronic device is capable, when the cellular client electronic device is in the operation, of wirelessly receiving at least one portion of the at least one media stream from the remote server system only while an active communication connection exists between the cellular client electronic device and the remote server system, the at least one portion of the at least one media stream to be stored temporarily in the storage.
39 . The at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 36 , wherein:
the cellular client electronic device is capable, when the cellular client electronic device is in the operation, of displaying, via the display subsystem, respective icons in association with respective media data items in the media playlist; and the respective icons are to indicate whether the respective media data items are stored in the remote server system or in the cellular client electronic device.
40 . The at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 36 , wherein:
the media playlist is capable of being associated with at least one user selected genre, the at least one user selected genre being at least one of a plurality possible genres; and the remote server system is capable of storing:
respective users' musical preference data;
metadata associated with the media data items of the media playlist; and
listening trend data.
41 . The at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 36 , wherein:
the cellular client electronic device comprises:
a cellular telephone;
personal data assistant device; and/or
wireless email device.
42 . The at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 36 , wherein:
the display subsystem comprises a liquid crystal display or a light emitting diode display.
43 . A server system capable of wirelessly communicating with a cellular client electronic device via an Internet network, the server system comprising:
a processor; storage capable of storing, at least in part, instructions that are capable of being executed, at least in part, by the processor, the instructions, when executed, at least in part, by the processor resulting, at least in part, in the server system being capable of performing operations comprising: permitting access, at least in part, via the Internet network, by the cellular client electronic device, to a media data item stored, at least in part, at the server system, the media data item being comprised in a media playlist stored, at least in part, in the cellular client electronic device and/or in the server system, the media playlist being capable of comprising media data items that are to be played at the cellular client electronic device in a sequence defined, at least in part, by the media playlist, the media playlist being capable of comprising media data items that comprise the media data item and another media data item, the another media data item to be stored, at least in part, at the cellular client electronic device, the media data item that is stored, at least in part, at the server system being unavailable for retrieval, at least in part, from the cellular client electronic device for playing by the cellular client electronic device, the media playlist to be accessed based, at least in part, upon at least one user input to be received, at least in part, via a user interface of the cellular client electronic device; when the cellular client electronic device is in operation, the cellular client electronic device being capable of displaying, at least in part, the media playlist; and when the cellular client electronic device is in the operation, the cellular client electronic device being capable of receiving, at least in part, via the user interface:
at least one additional user input that requests playing, at least in part, of the media playlist, the playing, at least in part, of the media playlist being capable of being based, at least in part, upon:
at least one media stream to be received, at least in part, from the server system via the Internet network, for use in the playing of the media playlist, the at least one media stream to correspond, at least in part, to the another media data item;
wherein:
the at least one media stream is to be provided, at least in part, by the server system to the cellular client electronic device based, at least in part, upon whether a user associated with the cellular client electronic device is a subscriber of a service associated, at least in part, with the server system;
the cellular client electronic device is capable, when the cellular client electronic device is in the operation, of obtaining, at least in part, the media data item from the cellular client electronic device for use in the playing of the media playlist;
the another media data item is capable of being downloaded, at least in part, from the server system for storing, at least in part, in the cellular client electronic device, the another media data item when stored in the cellular client electronic device being usable by the user only so long as the user remains subscribed to the service;
the cellular client electronic device also is capable, when the cellular client electronic device is in the operation, of executing an operating system.
44 . The server system of claim 43 , wherein:
the operating system is based, at least in part, upon a Linux operating system; the media data item and the another media data item comprise media tracks.
45 . The server system of claim 43 , wherein:
the cellular client electronic device is capable, when the cellular client electronic device is in the operation, of wirelessly receiving at least one portion of the at least one media stream from the server system only while an active communication connection exists between the cellular client electronic device and the server system, the at least one portion of the at least one media stream to be stored temporarily in the cellular client electronic device.
46 . The server system of claim 43 , wherein:
the cellular client electronic device is capable, when the cellular client electronic device is in the operation, of displaying respective icons in association with respective media data items in the media playlist; the respective icons are to indicate whether the respective media data items are stored in the server system or in the cellular client electronic device.
47 . The server system of claim 43 , wherein:
the media playlist is capable of being associated with at least one user selected genre, the at least one user selected genre being at least one of a plurality possible genres; and the server system is capable of storing:
respective users' musical preference data;
metadata associated with the media data items of the media playlist; and
listening trend data.
48 . The server system of claim 43 , wherein:
the cellular client electronic device comprises:
a cellular telephone;
personal data assistant device;
wireless email device; and/or
a liquid crystal display or a light emitting diode display.

At least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions for execution, at least in part, by a processor of a server system, the server system being capable of wirelessly communicating with a cellular client electronic device via an Internet network, the instructions when executed, at least in part, by the processor resulting in the server system being capable of performing operations comprising:
permitting access, at least in part, via the Internet network, by the cellular client electronic device, to a media data item stored, at least in part, at the server system, the media data item being comprised in a media playlist stored, at least in part, in the cellular client electronic device and/or in the server system, the media playlist being capable of comprising media data items that are to be played at the cellular client electronic device in a sequence defined, at least in part, by the media playlist, the media playlist being capable of comprising media data items that comprise the media data item and another media data item, the another media data item to be stored, at least in part, at the cellular client electronic device, the media data item that is stored, at least in part, at the server system being unavailable for retrieval, at least in part, from the cellular client electronic device for playing by the cellular client electronic device, the media playlist to be accessed based, at least in part, upon at least one user input to be received, at least in part, via a user interface of the cellular client electronic device; when the cellular client electronic device is in operation, the cellular client electronic device being capable of displaying, at least in part, the media playlist; and when the cellular client electronic device is in the operation, the cellular client electronic device being capable of receiving, at least in part, via the user interface:
at least one additional user input that requests playing, at least in part, of the media playlist, the playing, at least in part, of the media playlist being capable of being based, at least in part, upon:

the operating system is based, at least in part, upon a Linux operating system; and the media data item and the another media data item comprise media tracks.
51 . The at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 49 , wherein:
the cellular client electronic device is capable, when the cellular client electronic device is in the operation, of wirelessly receiving at least one portion of the at least one media stream from the server system only while an active communication connection exists between the cellular client electronic device and the server system, the at least one portion of the at least one media stream to be stored temporarily in the cellular client electronic device.
52 . The at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 49 , wherein:
the cellular client electronic device is capable, when the cellular client electronic device is in the operation, of displaying respective icons in association with respective media data items in the media playlist; and the respective icons are to indicate whether the respective media data items are stored in the server system or in the cellular client electronic device.
53 . The at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 49 , wherein:
