Abstract

The invention is a building wall and a method of framing and constructing a building structure such as a dwelling or commercial building, and more particularly a method utilizing engineered, prefabricated panels having insulating qualities and having grooves and channels therein to aid in the framing of the walls, ceiling and floor of the building. The present invention also relates to a building wall assembled according to the method of the present invention. The present invention also relates to a novel insulated panel for use in framing and constructing a building wall for a commercial or residential structure.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

1 . A method of constructing a horizontal wall upon a floor assembly surface, the method comprising the steps of:
 a. providing a series of framing members each having a length, a width, and a depth; b. providing an insulated panel comprising an exterior surface, an interior surface, a top edge, a bottom edge, and recessed framing channels for receiving and pre-positioning said framing members, said framing channels being located on the exterior surface of said insulated panel and being recessed inward from the exterior surface of said insulated panel, said framing channel having a length, a width, and a depth complimentary to the length, the width, and the depth of said framing members; c. inserting the framing members into the framing channels; d. joining the framing members to the insulated panel; and e. elevating the panel such that the vertical framing members are substantially perpendicular to the horizontal flooring surface, and the horizontal framing members are substantially parallel to the horizontal flooring surface.

2 . The method of claim 1 wherein the step of joining the framing members to the insulated panel comprises the steps of:
 a. providing an adhesive suitable for securing said framing members within the framing channels; and
 b. allowing the adhesive to set-up such that said framing members are secured within said framing channels.

3 . The method of claim 1 wherein the step of joining the framing members to the insulated panel comprises the step of:
 a. providing mechanical fasteners suitable for securing said framing members within said framing channels; and
 b. securing said framing members to said insulated panel using said mechanical fasteners.

4 . The method of claim 1 wherein the step of joining the framing members to the insulated panel comprises the steps of:
 a. providing an adhesive suitable for securing said framing members within said framing channels;
 b. providing mechanical fasteners suitable for securing said framing members within said framing channels; and
 c. applying said adhesive in conjunction with said mechanical fasteners to said framing members.

5 . The method of claim 1 wherein the step of providing an insulated panel comprises providing an insulated panel additionally comprising a tope horizontal framing channel and a bottom horizontal framing channel, and an upper insulated course extending from sais top horizontal framing channel to said top edge of the insulated panel and comprising truss spaces capable of receiving stringers.

6 . A building wall assembled according to the method of claim 1 .

7 . A method of constructing a wall upon a floor assembly surface at a construction site, the method comprising the steps of:
 a. providing a series of framing members each having a length, a width, and a depth; b. providing an insulated panel comprising an exterior surface, an interior surface, a top edge, a bottom edge, and recessed framing channels located on the exterior surface of said insulated panel and being recessed inward from the exterior surface of said insulated panel, said framing channel having a length, a width, and a depth complimentary to the length, the width, and the depth of said framing members, and serving as a template for proper positioning of said framing members; c. delivering said insulated panel and said framing members to said construction site; d. inserting said framing members into said framing channels of said insulated panel; e. joining said framing members to said insulated panel; and f. elevating said insulated panel such that said insulated panel is substantially perpendicular to said floor assembly surface.

8 . A wall constructed according to the method of claim 7 .
