Configuring a content document for users and use groups

Abstract

A computer-implemented system and method to distribute a content document with security, customization, and scalability is provided. One or more servers provides a customizable content document associated with a first entity, enables a second entity to specify content to be included for users associated with the entity in the customizable content document, and delivers the customized content document incorporating the specified content in a secure manner to users associated with the second entity.

         40 . A computer-implemented method comprising:
 receiving, using one or more computers, customization data for a resource template, the customization data identifying a particular user group and specifying one or more modifications to the resource template that customize the resource template for presentation to users in the particular user group;   based on the customization data and using the one or more computers, generating an instance of the resource from the resource template;   receiving a request for the resource from a client device, the request identifying a user of the client device as being in the particular user group; and   responsive to the request identifying the user of the client device as being in the particular user group, transmitting the generated instance of the resource to the client device.   
     
     
         41 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 40 , wherein the one or more modifications to the resource template comprise a modification to user group configuration settings, and transmitting the generated instance of the resource to the client device comprises transmitting the generated instance based on personal configuration settings for the user and user group configuration settings as modified by the personal configuration settings for the user. 
     
     
         42 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 41 , wherein the user group configuration settings include a freeze setting that prevents the users from selecting personal configuration settings that modify the user group configuration settings. 
     
     
         43 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 41 , further comprising sending a software application to the client device, wherein execution of the software application by the client device provides a graphical user interface that allows selection of user group configuration settings, and the received identification of user group configuration settings includes data generated based on a user interaction with the graphical user interface. 
     
     
         44 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 43 , wherein the software application comprises at least one of a standalone application or a web application. 
     
     
         45 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 41 , wherein the user group configuration settings specify an authentication method to authenticate the users in the user group. 
     
     
         46 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 41 , wherein the user group configuration settings specify a domain name to be associated with the user group. 
     
     
         47 . A system, comprising:
 a non-transitory computer memory; and   at least one hardware processor interoperably coupled with the non-transitory computer memory and configured to perform operations including:
 receiving, using one or more computers, customization data for a resource template, the customization data identifying a particular user group and specifying one or more modifications to the resource template that customize the resource template for presentation to users in the particular user group; 
 based on the customization data and using the one or more computers, generating an instance of the resource from the resource template; 
 receiving a request for the resource from a client device, the request identifying a user of the client device as being in the particular user group; and 
 responsive to the request identifying the user of the client device as being in the particular user group, transmitting the generated instance of the resource to the client device. 
   
     
     
         48 . The system of  claim 47 , wherein the one or more modifications to the resource template comprise a modification to user group configuration settings, and transmitting the generated instance of the resource to the client device comprises transmitting the generated instance based on personal configuration settings for the user and user group configuration settings as modified by the personal configuration settings for the user. 
     
     
         49 . The system of  claim 48 , wherein the user group configuration settings include a freeze setting that prevents the users from selecting personal configuration settings that modify the user group configuration settings.

The system of  claim 48 , further comprising sending a software application to the client device, wherein execution of the software application by the client device provides a graphical user interface that allows selection of user group configuration settings, and the received identification of user group configuration settings includes data generated based on a user interaction with the graphical user interface. 
     
     
         51 . The system of  claim 50 , wherein the software application comprises at least one of a standalone application or a web application. 
     
     
         52 . The system of  claim 48 , wherein the user group configuration settings specify an authentication method to authenticate the users in the user group. 
     
     
         53 . The system of  claim 48 , wherein the user group configuration settings specify a domain name to be associated with the user group. 
     
     
         54 . A computer-implemented method comprising:
 receiving customization data for a resource template, the customization data identifying a particular user type and specifying one or more modifications to the resource template that customize the resource template for presentation to users of the particular user type;   based on the customization data, generating an instance of the resource from the resource template;   receiving a request for the resource from a client device, the request identifying a user of the client device as being the particular user type; and   responsive to the request identifying the user of the client device as being the particular user type, transmitting the generated instance of the resource to the client device.

The computer-implemented method of  claim 54 , wherein the one or more modifications to the resource template comprise a modification to user group configuration settings, and transmitting the generated instance of the resource to the client device comprises transmitting the generated instance based on personal configuration settings for the user and user group configuration settings as modified by the personal configuration settings for the user. 
     
     
         56 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 55 , wherein the user group configuration settings include a freeze setting that prevents the users from selecting personal configuration settings that modify the user group configuration settings.

The computer-implemented method of  claim 55 , further comprising sending a software application to the client device, wherein execution of the software application by the client device provides a graphical user interface that allows selection of user group configuration settings, and the received identification of user group configuration settings includes data generated based on a user interaction with the graphical user interface. 
     
     
         58 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 57 , wherein the software application comprises at least one of a standalone application or a web application.
