Method and Apparatus For Enabling Machine To Machine Communication
Abstract
A method and apparatus for performing secure Machine-to-Machine (M2M) provisioning and communication is disclosed. In particular a temporary private identifier, or provisional connectivity identification (PCID), for uniquely identifying machine-to-machine equipment (M2ME) is also disclosed. Additionally, methods and apparatus for use in validating, authenticating and provisioning a M2ME is also disclosed. The validation procedures disclosed include an autonomous, semi-autonomous, and remote validation are disclosed. The provisioning procedures include methods for re-provisioning the M2ME. Procedures for updating software, and detecting tampering with the M2ME are also disclosed.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 - 14 . (canceled)
15 . A method for performing validation of a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) comprising the following steps performed at the wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU):
performing at least one validation check at the WTRU to produce at least one validation check result; reporting the at least one validation check result to a remote entity, the remote entity and the WTRU being separate entities on a network; and after reporting the at least one validation check result, receiving a message from the remote entity accepting or rejecting validation of the WTRU.
16 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the message is a validation success message.
17 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the WTRU is provisioned after a validation success.
18 . The method of claim 16 wherein the WTRU is provisioned with multiple manageable identities (MIDs) after a validation success.
19 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the WTRU is authorized to access a network after a validation success.
20 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the message is a validation failure message.
21 . The method of claim 20 , wherein the WTRU is prevented from attaching to a network after a validation failure.
22 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the at least one validation check includes a secure startup check.
23 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the at least one validation check includes a check of an integrity of at least one component, configuration, or parameter.
24 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the at least one validation check includes an integrity check of the WTRU codebase.
25 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the at least one validation check includes using a trusted environment (TRE) at the wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) to do a validation check of the TRE.
26 . The method of claim 25 , wherein the at least one validation check further includes a secure startup check of other components of the WTRU.
27 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the remote entity is a platform verification authority (PVA).
28 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) is Machine to Machine (M2M) equipment (M2ME).
29 . A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) comprising a processor and memory, and wherein the further including computer-executable instructions stored in the memory of the node which, when executed by the processor of the node, cause the node to:
perform at least one validation check at the WTRU to produce at least one validation check result; report the at least one validation check result to a remote entity, the remote entity and the WTRU being separate entities on a network; and after reporting the at least one validation check result, receive a message from the remote entity accepting or rejecting validation of the WTRU.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
