Automated collaboration for peer-to-peer electronic devices

Abstract

Automated collaboration for peer-to-peer electronic devices, in which a user profile is registered for a peer-to-peer network. The user profile defines rules for automated collaboration among electronic devices connected to the peer-to-peer network. An electronic device connected to the peer-to-peer network discovers a new electronic device joining the peer-to-peer network. The electronic device sends, to the new electronic device, the user profile and automatically, without user input at the electronic device or the new electronic device, negotiates with the new electronic device to determine how the electronic device and the new electronic device will collaboratively work together to meet the rules specified in the user profile. Based on the negotiation, the electronic device collaborates with the new electronic device in a manner that results in the new electronic device handling at least a portion of an event at the new electronic device.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method implemented by one or more processors, the method comprising:
 identifying one or more electronic devices that are connected to a wireless network;   determining one or more network profiles of users associated, respectively, with the one or more electronic devices;   determining one or more preferences of a particular user among the users associated, respectively, with the one or more electronic devices, the one or more preferences of the particular user being determined based on a network profile of the particular user included in the one or more network profiles;   selecting a destination device for displaying social network data of the particular user based on the one or more preferences of the particular user that are determined based on the network profile of the particular user;   receiving data indicative of a social network event associated with a social network of the particular user; and   in response to receiving the data indicative of the social network event, configuring a display device to display, at the selected destination device, the data indicative of a social network event associated with the particular user.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein determining the one or more network profiles of the users associated, respectively, with the one or more electronic devices comprises:
 for each of the one or more electronic devices that are connected to the wireless network and that are executing the social network applications:
 generating a query for information indicative of a network profile of a user associated with the electronic device; 
 transmitting the query for information to the electronic device; and 
 receiving, from the electronic device, data indicative of the network profile of the user associated with the electronic device. 
   
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the network profile of the particular user includes data indicative of one or more of:
 one or more users permitted to view social network data of the particular user;   one or more users not permitted to view social network data of the particular user;   a device on which to display social network data in the presence of the one or more users permitted to view social network data of the particular user; and   a device on which to display social network data in the presence of the one or more users that are not permitted to view social network data of the particular user.   
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 determining, from among the users associated with the one or more electronic devices, one or more users that are permitted to view social network data of the particular user based on the one or more preferences of the particular user, the determining of the one or more users that are permitted comprises:
 determining whether users associated with the one or more electronic devices are connected to the particular user through a social network of the particular user; and 
 identifying the one or more users that are connected to the particular user through the social network of the particular user and that are permitted to view social network data of the particular user based on the one or more preferences of the particular user. 
   
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 determining, from among the users associated with the one or more electronic devices, one or more users that are not permitted to view social network data of the particular user based on the one or more preferences of the particular user; and   selecting a destination device for displaying social network data of the particular user based on the one or more users that are not permitted to view the social network data of the particular user, an identification of the destination device being included in the one or more preferences of the particular user.   
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 determining that a user device among the one or more electronic devices is logged into the social network of the particular user; and   in response to receiving the data indicative of the social network event and selecting the destination device, providing instructions to the user device to transmit the data indicative of the social network event from the user device to the destination device.   
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 receiving data indicative of a second social network event associated with a social network of a second user among the users associated, respectively, with the one or more electronic devices;   determining that the second user is permitted to view social network data of the particular user;   determining that the second social network event associated with the social network of a second user and the social network event associated with the particular user correspond to the same event; and   configuring a display device to display (i) information that includes a combination of the data indicative of the second social network event and data indicative of the social network event associated with the particular user, and (ii) an indication that the message is associated with the particular user and the second user.   
     
     
         8 . A system comprising one or more processors and one or more storage devices storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
 identifying one or more electronic devices that are connected to a wireless network;   determining one or more network profiles of users associated, respectively, with the one or more electronic devices;   determining one or more preferences of a particular user among the users associated, respectively, with the one or more electronic devices, the one or more preferences of the particular user being determined based on a network profile of the particular user included in the one or more network profiles;   selecting a destination device for displaying social network data of the particular user based on the one or more preferences of the particular user that are determined based on the network profile of the particular user;   receiving data indicative of a social network event associated with a social network of the particular user; and   in response to receiving the data indicative of the social network event, configuring a display device to display, at the selected destination device, the data indicative of a social network event associated with the particular user.   
     
     
         9 . The system of  claim 8 , wherein determining the one or more network profiles of the users associated, respectively, with the one or more electronic devices comprises:
 for each of the one or more electronic devices that are connected to the wireless network and that are executing the social network applications:
 generating a query for information indicative of a network profile of a user associated with the electronic device; 
 transmitting the query for information to the electronic device; and 
 receiving, from the electronic device, data indicative of the network profile of the user associated with the electronic device. 
   
     
     
         10 . The system of  claim 8 , wherein the network profile of the particular user includes data indicative of one or more of:
 one or more users permitted to view social network data of the particular user;   one or more users not permitted to view social network data of the particular user;   a device on which to display social network data in the presence of the one or more users permitted to view social network data of the particular user; and   a device on which to display social network data in the presence of the one or more users that are not permitted to view social network data of the particular user.   
     
     
         11 . The system of  claim 8 , wherein the operations further comprise:
 determining, from among the users associated with the one or more electronic devices, one or more users that are permitted to view social network data of the particular user based on the one or more preferences of the particular user, the determining of the one or more users that are permitted comprises:
 determining whether users associated with the one or more electronic devices are connected to the particular user through a social network of the particular user; and 
 identifying the one or more users that are connected to the particular user through the social network of the particular user and that are permitted to view social network data of the particular user based on the one or more preferences of the particular user. 
   
     
     
         12 . The system of  claim 8 , wherein the operations further comprise:
 determining, from among the users associated with the one or more electronic devices, one or more users that are not permitted to view social network data of the particular user based on the one or more preferences of the particular user; and   selecting a destination device for displaying social network data of the particular user based on the one or more users that are not permitted to view the social network data of the particular user, an identification of the destination device being included in the one or more preferences of the particular user.   
     
     
         13 . The system of  claim 8 , wherein the operations further comprise:
 determining that a user device among the one or more electronic devices is logged into the social network of the particular user; and   in response to receiving the data indicative of the social network event and selecting the destination device, providing instructions to the user device to transmit the data indicative of the social network event from the user device to the destination device.   
     
     
         14 . The system of  claim 8 , wherein the operations further comprise:
 receiving data indicative of a second social network event associated with a social network of a second user among the users associated, respectively, with the one or more electronic devices;   determining that the second user is permitted to view social network data of the particular user;   determining that the second social network event associated with the social network of a second user and the social network event associated with the particular user correspond to the same event; and   configuring a display device to display (i) information that includes a combination of the data indicative of the second social network event and data indicative of the social network event associated with the particular user, and (ii) an indication that the message is associated with the particular user and the second user.   
     
     
         15 . One or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media comprising instructions, which, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
 identifying one or more electronic devices that are connected to a wireless network;   determining one or more network profiles of users associated, respectively, with the one or more electronic devices;   determining one or more preferences of a particular user among the users associated, respectively, with the one or more electronic devices, the one or more preferences of the particular user being determined based on a network profile of the particular user included in the one or more network profiles;   selecting a destination device for displaying social network data of the particular user based on the one or more preferences of the particular user that are determined based on the network profile of the particular user;   receiving data indicative of a social network event associated with a social network of the particular user; and   in response to receiving the data indicative of the social network event, configuring a display device to display, at the selected destination device, the data indicative of a social network event associated with the particular user.   
     
     
         16 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media of  claim 15 , wherein determining the one or more network profiles of the users associated, respectively, with the one or more electronic devices comprises:
 for each of the one or more electronic devices that are connected to the wireless network and that are executing the social network applications:
 generating a query for information indicative of a network profile of a user associated with the electronic device; 
 transmitting the query for information to the electronic device; and 
 receiving, from the electronic device, data indicative of the network profile of the user associated with the electronic device. 
   
     
     
         17 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media of  claim 15 , wherein the operations further comprise:
 determining, from among the users associated with the one or more electronic devices, one or more users that are permitted to view social network data of the particular user based on the one or more preferences of the particular user, the determining of the one or more users that are permitted comprises:
 determining whether users associated with the one or more electronic devices are connected to the particular user through a social network of the particular user; and 
 identifying the one or more users that are connected to the particular user through the social network of the particular user and that are permitted to view social network data of the particular user based on the one or more preferences of the particular user. 
   
     
     
         18 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media of  claim 15 , wherein the operations further comprise:
 determining, from among the users associated with the one or more electronic devices, one or more users that are not permitted to view social network data of the particular user based on the one or more preferences of the particular user; and   selecting a destination device for displaying social network data of the particular user based on the one or more users that are not permitted to view the social network data of the particular user, an identification of the destination device being included in the one or more preferences of the particular user.   
     
     
         19 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 in response to receiving the data indicative of the social network event, configuring a media device to output, at the selected destination device, the data indicative of the social network event associated with the particular user, the media device comprising at least one of the display device and an audio device.   
     
     
         20 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein selecting the destination device comprises selecting the destination device for displaying social network data of the particular user based on social media information associated with the particular user.
