Overloaded Communication Session

Abstract

A method of providing information responsive to a request from a wireless communication device involves receiving an information request from a mobile device and generating responsive information for the information request, transmitting a first portion of the responsive information to the mobile device in a first communication session, and transmitting a second portion of the responsive information to the mobile device in a second, overloaded communication session.

         2 . A method to provide information responsive to a request from a wireless communication device, the method comprising:
 receiving an information request from the wireless communication device, wherein the information request includes geographical information;   generating responsive information in two or more portions, wherein at least one portion of the responsive information includes local information generated based on the geographical information in the information request;   transmitting a first portion of the two or more portions to the wireless communication device in a first communication session; and   transmitting a second portion of the two or more portions to the wireless communication device in a second communication session, wherein the second portion is larger in data size than the first portion of the responsive information.   
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein generating the responsive information in two or more portions comprises generating at least one of the first portion and the second portion that includes a search element having one or more properties that include one or more of: a phone number, a uniform resource locator (URL), and a message destination address. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the local information includes one or more local results generated based on the geographical information. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 4 , wherein the local information further includes driving directions for one of the local results determined to be closest to the location represented by the geographical information. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 2 , further comprising transmitting, to the wireless communication device, one or more of advertising and promotional information related to the information request. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein transmitting the first portion of the two or more portions to the wireless communication device in a first communication session comprises transmitting the first portion in a hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) communication session. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein transmitting the first portion of the two or more portions to the wireless communication device in a first communication session comprises transmitting the first portion in a socket communication session. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the information request comprises a search request. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the responsive information in the first communication session comprises information in a first search result type, and the responsive information in the second communication session comprises information in a plurality of search result types that each differ from the first search result type. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein transmitting the first portion is performed prior to transmitting the second portion. 
     
     
         12 . A wireless communication system to transmit requests and receive responses, the wireless communication system comprising:
 a connection module that establishes a connection between a wireless communication device and a server;   a query module that transmits a search request from the wireless communication device to the server, wherein the search request includes geographical information;   a result download module at the wireless communication device configured to:
 receive responsive information in two or more portions, wherein at least one portion of the responsive information includes local information based on the geographical information in the search request; 
 receive a first portion of the two or more portions at the wireless communication device in a first communication session; and 
 receive a second portion of the two or more portions at the wireless communication device in a second communication session, wherein the second portion is larger in data size than the first portion of the responsive information; and 
   a display module at the mobile device that provides the responsive information for display.   
     
     
         13 . A method performed by a wireless communication device, the method comprising:
 transmitting an information request from the wireless communication device, wherein the information request includes geographical information;   receiving responsive information in two or more portions, wherein at least one portion of the responsive information includes local information based on the geographical information in the information request;   receiving a first portion of the two or more portions at the wireless communication device in a first communication session; and   receiving a second portion of the two or more portions at the wireless communication device in a second communication session, wherein the second portion is larger in data size than the first portion of the responsive information.   
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 13 , wherein one or more of the first portion and the second portion includes at least one result having one or more properties, each initiating a different action when selected. 
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 14 , the method further comprising:
 causing at least a portion of the responsive information to be displayed, wherein a particular result of the responsive information includes a telephone number;   receiving a selection of the particular result; and   in response to the selection, causing the wireless communication device to initiate a phone call to the telephone number.   
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 15 , further comprising displaying the result area when the phone call is complete. 
     
     
         17 . The method of  claim 14 , the method further comprising:
 causing at least a portion of the responsive information to be displayed, wherein a particular result of the responsive information includes a uniform resource locator (URL);   receiving a selection of the particular result; and   in response to the selection, causing the wireless communication device to pass the URL to a browser application to request a resource corresponding to the URL and to display the resource.   
     
     
         18 . The method of  claim 17 , further comprising displaying the result area when a browsing session to the URL is complete. 
     
     
         19 . The method of  claim 14 , the method further comprising:
 causing at least a portion of the responsive information to be displayed, wherein a particular result of the responsive information includes a message destination address;   receiving a selection of the particular result; and   in response to the selection, causing the wireless communication device to pass the message destination address to a messaging application to receive a message and transmit the message to the instant message address.   
     
     
         20 . The method of  claim 19 , further comprising displaying the result area when a messaging operation is complete. 
     
     
         21 . The method of  claim 19 , wherein the messaging application is a short message service (SMS) application and the messaging destination address is an SMS address.
