Method and system of suggesting information used with items offered for sale in a network-based marketplace

Abstract

Methods and systems to suggest information to be used with an item being listed for sale may include analyzing stored search queries and identifying co-occurring terms or terms based on their desirability scores (or desirable terms). The co-occurring terms and the desirable terms may be identified based on their frequency of use in the search queries and/or in the title information or other information associated with items offered for sale.

         2 . A computer-implemented method, comprising:
 receiving a title of an item being listed;   identifying a concept, the concept including one or more terms in the title of the item being listed;   determining, from a networked database, a plurality of co-occurring terms from stored search queries and stored item information;   matching, by a processor of the machine, the concept with one or more co-occurring terms of the plurality of co-occurring terms;   selecting, by a processor of the machine, at least one co-occurring term from the plurality of co-occurring terms based on the matching;   generating, by processor of the machine, a suggestion of a modification to the title of the item being listed, the modification modifying the title by adding the selected at least one co-occurring term to the title, the suggestion of the modification including presenting the concept in conjunction with the selected at least one co-occurring term and a selection option to enable a user to added the at least one co-occurring term; and   transmitting, to a client device, instructions to cause display of the suggestion of the modification on a user interface of the client device.   
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the networked database stores a co-occurring terms table, each co-occurring term in the co-occurring terms table including a first set of words and a second word, the first set of words and the second word corresponding to terms that have occurred together in the stored search queries and corresponding to terms that have occurred together in the stored item information corresponding to title information of items previously listed. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 3 , wherein the matching is based on the concept matching the first set of words of the one or more co-occurring terms 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the selecting is further based on a desirability score associated with the at least one co-occurring term. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 2 , further comprising combining the plurality of co-occurring terms determined from stored search queries and stored item information 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 6 , further comprising ranking the combined plurality of co-occurring terms according to frequency of occurrence, wherein the selecting is based on the ranking. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the receiving the title occurs via the user interface of the client device that displays of the suggestion of the modification. 
     
     
         9 . A system, comprising:
 one or more processors; and   a memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
 receiving a title of an item being listed; 
 identifying a concept, the concept including one or more terms in the title of the item being listed; 
 determining, from a networked database, a plurality of co-occurring terms from stored search queries and stored item information; 
 matching the concept with one or more co-occurring terms of the plurality of co-occurring terms; 
 selecting at least one co-occurring term from the plurality of co-occurring terms based on the matching; 
 generating a suggestion of a modification to the title of the item being listed, the modification modifying the title by adding the selected at least one co-occurring term to the title, the suggestion of the modification including presenting the concept in conjunction with the selected at least one co-occurring term and a selection option to enable a user to added the at least one co-occurring term; and 
 transmitting, to a client device, instructions to cause display of the suggestion of the modification on a user interface of the client device.

The system of  claim 9 , wherein the networked database stores a co-occurring terms table, each co-occurring term in the co-occurring terms table including a first set of words and a second word, the first set of words and the second word corresponding to terms that have occurred together in the stored search queries and corresponding to terms that have occurred together in the stored item information corresponding to title information of items previously listed. 
     
     
         11 . The system of  claim 10 , wherein the matching is based on the concept matching the first set of words of the one or more co-occurring terms 
     
     
         12 . The system of  claim 9 , wherein the selecting is further based on a desirability score associated with the at least one co-occurring term. 
     
     
         13 . The system of  claim 9 , wherein the operations further comprise combining the plurality of co-occurring terms determined from stored search queries and stored item information 
     
     
         14 . The system of  claim 13 , wherein the operations further comprise ranking the combined plurality of co-occurring terms according to frequency of occurrence, wherein the selecting is based on the ranking. 
     
     
         15 . The system of  claim 9 , wherein the receiving the title occurs via the user interface of the client device that displays of the suggestion of the modification. 
     
     
         16 . A storage device storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a machine, cause the machine to perform operations comprising:
 receiving a title of an item being listed;   identifying a concept, the concept including one or more terms in the title of the item being listed;   determining, from a networked database, a plurality of co-occurring terms from stored search queries and stored item information;   matching the concept with one or more co-occurring terms of the plurality of co-occurring terms;   selecting at least one co-occurring term from the plurality of co-occurring terms based on the matching;   generating a suggestion of a modification to the title of the item being listed, the modification modifying the title by adding the selected at least one co-occurring term to the title, the suggestion of the modification including presenting the concept in conjunction with the selected at least one co-occurring term and a selection option to enable a user to added the at least one co-occurring term; and   transmitting, to a client device, instructions to cause display of the suggestion of the modification on a user interface of the client device.

The storage device of  claim 16 , wherein the networked database stores a co-occurring terms table, each co-occurring term in the co-occurring terms table including a first set of words and a second word, the first set of words and the second word corresponding to terms that have occurred together in the stored search queries and corresponding to terms that have occurred together in the stored item information corresponding to title information of items previously listed. 
     
     
         18 . The storage device of  claim 17 , wherein the matching is based on the concept matching the first set of words of the one or more co-occurring terms 
     
     
         19 . The storage device of  claim 16 , wherein the selecting is further based on a desirability score associated with the at least one co-occurring term. 
     
     
         20 . The storage device of  claim 16 , wherein the operations further comprise combining the plurality of co-occurring terms determined from stored search queries and stored item information 
     
     
         21 . The storage device of  claim 20 , wherein the operations further comprise ranking the combined plurality of co-occurring terms according to frequency of occurrence, wherein the selecting is based on the ranking.
