Compositions of resveratrol and methods for their use and manufacture

Abstract

Compositions of reserveratrol having enhanced properties. The compositions of the invention can comprise resveratrol and one or more agents that increase the bioavailability, efficacy and/or bioactivity of the resveratrol. Compositions of the invention find use in the treatment of a variety of conditions, including skin conditions and preventative health maintenance. Methods of making the inventive compositions are also contemplated.

         27 . A composition comprising resveratrol, lecithin and at least one comestible oil, wherein the resveratrol, lecithin and the comestible oil are present in a ratio of about 98:1:1, respectively. 
     
     
         28 . The composition of  claim 27 , wherein the lecithin and the at least one comestible oil increase bioavailability of the resveratrol compared to resveratrol in the absence of the lecithin and the at least one comestible oil. 
     
     
         29 . The composition of  claim 27 , wherein the composition comprises about 98% of the resveratrol, about 1% of the lecithin, and about 1% of the at least one comestible oil. 
     
     
         30 . The composition of  claim 27 , wherein the resveratrol comprises cis-resveratrol, trans-resveratrol, or a combination thereof. 
     
     
         31 . The composition of  claim 30 , wherein the resveratrol comprises trans-resveratrol. 
     
     
         32 . The composition of  claim 27 , wherein the resveratrol comprises grape skin resveratrol,  P. cuspidatum  resveratrol,  C. quinquangulata  resveratrol,  Polygonum cuspidatum  resveratrol, or synthetic resveratrol.

The composition of  claim 27 , wherein the at least one comestible oil comprises grape seed oil, jojoba oil, soybean oil, almond oil, avocado oil, petrolatum oil, vegetable oil, peanut oil, canola oil, flax seed oil, palm kernel oil, coconut oil, olive oil, peppermint oil, carrot oil, caraway oil, or a combination thereof. 
     
     
         34 . The composition of  claim 33 , wherein the at least one comestible oil comprises grape seed oil. 
     
     
         35 . The composition of  claim 27 , wherein the lecithin comprises sunflower lecithin. 
     
     
         36 . The composition of  claim 27 , wherein the composition is in an amount of between about 50 mg to 500 mg or about 25 mg to 50 mg. 
     
     
         37 . The composition of  claim 27 , wherein the composition is formulated to be administered orally, sublingually, intranasally, topically, intravenously, intramuscularly, subcutaneously, buccally, parenterally, intravaginally, rectally, and by inhalation. 
     
     
         38 . The composition of  claim 27 , wherein the composition is in the form of a powder, pill, tablet, pellet, capsule, thin film, solution, spray, syrup, linctus, lozenge, pastille, chewing gum, paste, suspension, solution, vapor, suspension, solution, emulsion, ointment, cream, lotion, liniment, gel, drop, topical patch, buccal patch, bead, gummy, sol or injection. 
     
     
         39 . The composition of  claim 27 , wherein the composition is in contact with a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient. 
     
     
         40 . A method for treating a skin condition, the method comprising administering to a subject in need thereof a composition comprising resveratrol, lecithin and at least one comestible oil, wherein the resveratrol, lecithin, and at least one comestible oil are in a ratio of about 98:1:1, wherein administering the composition to the subject treats the skin condition in the subject. 
     
     
         41 . The method of  claim 40 , wherein the lecithin and the at least one comestible oil increase bioavailability of the resveratrol compared to resveratrol in the absence of the lecithin and the at least one comestible oil. 
     
     
         42 . The method of  claim 40 , wherein the composition comprises about 98% of the resveratrol, about 1% of the lecithin, and about 1% of the at least one comestible oil. 
     
     
         43 . The method of  claim 40 , wherein the resveratrol comprises cis-resveratrol, trans-resveratrol, or a combination thereof. 
     
     
         44 . The method of  claim 43 , wherein the resveratrol comprises trans-resveratrol. 
     
     
         45 . The method of  claim 40 , wherein the at least one comestible oil comprises grape seed oil, jojoba oil, soybean oil, almond oil, avocado oil, petrolatum oil, vegetable oil, peanut oil, canola oil, flax seed oil, palm kernel oil, coconut oil, olive oil, peppermint oil, carrot oil, caraway oil, or a combination thereof. 
     
     
         46 . The method of  claim 45 , wherein the at least one comestible oil comprises grape seed oil. 
     
     
         47 . The method of  claim 40 , wherein the lecithin comprises sunflower lecithin. 
     
     
         48 . The method of  claim 40 , wherein the composition is administered orally, sublingually, intranasally, topically, intravenously, intramuscularly, subcutaneously, buccally, parenterally, intravaginally, rectally, and by inhalation. 
     
     
         49 . The method of  claim 40 , wherein the skin condition is wrinkles or hyperpigmentation.
