Abstract
An intelligent television can store and retrieve data about various functions of the television or associated with user behavior. The stored data streamlines the processes of providing electronic programming guide information, providing search results, providing statistics about content, providing channel information, etc. The unique set of data services in the intelligent television receive, store, manage, and retrieve the data for various of the applications or components.

16 . A method for managing data associated with an intelligent television, the method comprising:
receiving an indication to begin a first time experience for a user, wherein the first time experience is a first interaction between the user and the intelligent television before providing content from a live television source; in response to the indication, automatically determining the live television source from both an antenna and a port interface; automatically scanning, in the background, for presence of one or more live television channels on both the antenna and the port interface; and providing a list of the live television channels based on the presence of one or more live television channels on both the antenna and the port interface.
17 . The method as defined in claim 16 , wherein the scan is completed without input from a user of the intelligent television.
18 . The method as defined in claim 17 , wherein the first time experience begins when the user first uses the intelligent television.
19 . The method as defined in claim 18 , wherein the user provides other selections during the first time experience.
20 . The method as defined in claim 19 , wherein the other selections are made while the automatic scanning is on-going
21 . The method as defined in claim 20 , wherein the automatic scanning occurs while the user views live television content on a previously scanned channel.
22 . The method as defined in claim 21 , wherein the automatic scan is of one or more of analog or digital television sources on one or more of the antennae and port interface.
23 . The method as defined in claim 22 , wherein the automatic scan is of two or more live television sources.
24 . The method as defined in claim 23 , wherein the list is populated in a channel change user interface.
25 . An intelligent television system comprising:
a memory operable to store channel data; a processor in communication with the memory, the processor operable to:
execute a live television source plug-in operable to:
receive an indication to begin a first time experience for a user, wherein the first time experience is a first interaction between the user and the intelligent television before providing content from a live television source;
in response to the indication, automatically determine a live television source from both an antenna and a port interface;
automatically scan, in the background, for presence of one or more live television channels in the live television source on both the antenna and the port interface; and
execute a user interface application in communication with the live television source plug-in, the user interface application operable to provide a list of the live television channels based on the presence of one or more live television channels on both the antenna and the port interface.
26 . An intelligent television system as defined in claim 25 , wherein the processor is further operable to:
receive an indication to begin a first time experience for the user; and in response to the indication, automatically scan for the one or more live television channel, wherein the live television source plug-in is operable to automatically scan for the one or more live television channels, wherein the first time experience begins when the user first uses the intelligent television.
27 . The intelligent television system as defined in claim 26 , wherein the automatic scan is of one or more of analog or digital television sources, and wherein the automatic scan is of two or more live television sources.
28 . The intelligent television system as defined in claim 27 , wherein the list is populated in a channel change user interface, and wherein the scan is completed without input from a user of the intelligent television.
29 . A non-transitory computer readable medium having stored thereon processor executable instructions that cause a computing system to execute a method, the instructions comprising:
instructions to receive an indication to begin a first time experience for a user, wherein the first time experience is a first interaction between the user and the intelligent television before providing content from a live television source; in response to the indication, instructions to automatically determine a live television source from both an antenna and a port interface; instructions to automatically scan, in the background, for presence of one or more live television channels in the live television source on both the antenna and the port interface; instructions to provide a list of the live television channels based on the presence of one or more live television channels on both the antenna and the port interface.
30 . The computer readable medium as defined in claim 29 , wherein the live television source plug-in is operable to automatically scan for the one or more live television channels, wherein the first time experience begins when the user first uses the intelligent television.
31 . The computer readable medium as defined in claim 29 , wherein the user provides other selections during the first time experience, and wherein the other selections are made while the automatic scanning is on-going.
32 . The computer readable medium as defined in claim 29 , wherein the automatic scan is of one or more of analog or digital television sources, and wherein the automatic scan is of two or more live television sources.
