Abstract
A global aspect dictionary is created based on queries run on a search engine and responsive results to the query that are interacted with. The global aspect dictionary is used by a mapping server to look up aspects for queries received from users. A query received by the mapping server is modified by adding aspects from the dictionary to the query. in some example embodiments, tokens in the query corresponding to the added aspects are removed from the query. Results responsive to the modified query are transmitted to the user.

1 . A method comprising:
receiving, by one or more processors, a search query that includes a plurality of words; based on the search query, identifying a category of results; identifying, by the one or more processors, a word of the plurality of words and an aspect of the category that corresponds to the word; modifying the search query by removing the identified word from the search query; based on the modified search query, the category, and the aspect of the category, identifying a set of results; and responsive to the receipt of the search query, transmitting the identified set of results.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein:
the identifying of the aspect of the category that corresponds to the word identifies the aspect based on actions of other users after submitting prior search queries similar to the search query.
3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein:
the method further comprises:
determining a percentage of viewed items responsive to the prior search queries similar to the search query that have the aspect;
comparing the determined percentage to a predetermined threshold; and
based on a result of the comparison, adding the aspect to a dictionary; and
the identifying of the aspect of the category that corresponds to the word includes looking up the word in the dictionary.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein:
the receiving of the search query receives the search query from a user; and the identifying of the aspect of the category that corresponds to the word identifies the aspect based on prior actions of the user after submitting prior search queries.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein:
the receiving of the search query comprises receiving a context of the search query; and the identifying of the aspect of the category that corresponds to the word identifies the aspect based on actions of other users submitting search queries having the same context as the search query.
6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
searching for one or more of the words of the plurality of words in a dictionary; based on a result of the search in the dictionary, removing the one or more words from the search query and adding an aspect to the search query.
7 . The method of claim 6 , further comprising:
generating the dictionary from tags on listings of items for sale, the tags being added by users other than creators of the listings.
8 . The method of claim 6 , further comprising:
generating the dictionary from tags on listings of items for sale, the tags being added by creators of the listings.
9 . A system comprising:
a memory that stores instructions; and a processor configured by the instructions to perform operations comprising:
receiving a search query that includes a plurality of words;
based on the search query, identifying a category of results;
identifying, by a processor of a machine, a word of the plurality of words and an aspect of the category that corresponds to the word;
modifying the search query by removing the identified word from the search query;
based on the modified search query, the category, and the aspect of the category identifying a set of results; and
responsive to the receipt of the search query, transmitting the identified set of results.
10 . The system of claim 9 , wherein:
the identifying of the aspect of the category that corresponds to the word identifies the aspect based on actions of other users after submitting prior search queries similar to the search query.
11 . The system of claim 10 , wherein:
the operations further comprise:
determining a percentage of viewed items responsive to the prior search queries similar to the search query that have the aspect;
comparing the determined percentage to a predetermined threshold; and
based on a result of the comparison, adding the aspect to a dictionary; and
the identifying of the aspect of the category that corresponds to the word includes looking up the word in the dictionary.
12 . The system of claim 9 , wherein:
the receiving of the search query receives the search query from a user; and the identifying of the aspect of the category that corresponds to the word identifies the aspect based on prior actions of the user after submitting prior search queries.
13 . The system of claim 9 , wherein:
the receiving of the search query comprises receiving a context of the search query; and the identifying of the aspect of the category that corresponds to the word identifies the aspect based on actions of other users submitting search queries having the same context as the search query.
14 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the operations further comprise:
searching for one or more of the words of the plurality of words in a dictionary; based on a result of the search in the dictionary, removing the one or more words from the search query and adding an aspect to the search query.
15 . The system of claim 14 , wherein the operations further comprise:
generating the dictionary from tags on listings of items for sale, the tags being added by users other than creators of the listings.
16 . The system of claim 14 , wherein the operations further comprise:
generating the dictionary from tags on listings of items for sale, the tags being added by creators of the listings.
17 . A non-transitory machine-readable storage medium comprising instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a machine, cause the machine to perform operations comprising:
receiving a search query that includes a plurality of words; based on the search query, identifying a category of results; identifying, by a processor of a machine, a word of the plurality of words and an aspect of the category that corresponds to the word; modifying the search query by removing the identified word from the search query; based on the modified search query, the category, and the aspect of the category, identifying a set of results; and responsive to the receipt of the search query, transmitting the identified set of results.
18 . The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 17 , wherein:
the identifying of the aspect of the category that corresponds to the word identifies the aspect based on actions of other users after submitting prior search queries similar to the search query.
19 . The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 18 , wherein:
the operations further comprise:
determining a percentage of viewed items responsive to the prior search queries similar to the search query that have the aspect;
comparing the determined percentage to a predetermined threshold; and
based on a result of the comparison, adding the aspect to a dictionary; and
the identifying of the aspect of the category that corresponds to the word includes looking up the word in the dictionary.
20 . The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 17 , wherein:
