Abstract
Biopsy devices for acquiring tissue samples. In embodiments, exemplary biopsy devices include a cutter, a cannula including a tissue-receiving cavity, a vacuum generating mechanism and a tissue cutting mechanism. Vacuum generating mechanism draws tissue into tissue-receiving cavity and tissue cutting mechanism cuts a tissue sample. Vacuum generating mechanism may provide positive air pressure for tissue sample ejection.

1 . A cannula for a biopsy device comprising:
a tube having a closed end and an opposite open end; and a lateral tissue-receiving aperture through the tube adjacent the closed end, the tissue-receiving aperture narrowing in a direction away from the closed end.
2 . The cannula of claim 1 wherein the tissue-receiving aperture extends between first and second curved end edges.
