Abstract

Examples of systems and methods for wagering on an individual are disclosed. In one example according to aspects of the present disclosure, a method for wagering on an individual includes: receiving, by a computer system, a plurality of metrics related to a popularity profile of the individual, wherein at least one metric of the plurality of metrics is based on sentiment analysis, determining, by the computer system, an initial value for each metric related to the popularity profile of the individual, generating, by the computer system, a wager metric of a particular metric related to the popularity profile of the individual based on a transaction request, and predicting, by the computer system, a future value of the particular metric based on the initial value of the particular metric and the wager metric.

What is claimed is:

1 . A method for wagering on an individual, comprising:
receiving, by a computer system, a plurality of metrics related to a popularity profile of the individual, wherein at least one metric of the plurality of metrics is based on sentiment analysis; determining, by the computer system, an initial value for each metric related to the popularity profile of the individual; generating, by the computer system, a wager metric of a particular metric related to the popularity profile of the individual based on a transaction request; and predicting, by the computer system, a future value of the particular metric based on the initial value of the particular metric and the wager metric.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein predicting the future value of the particular metric related to the popularity profile of the individual comprises making multiple predictions for the future value of the particular metric related to the popularity profile of the individual.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein predicting the future value of the particular metric related to the popularity profile of the individual comprises applying a trend estimation technique to a plurality of historical values of the particular metric related to the popularity profile of the individual.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein predicting the future value of the particular metric related to the popularity profile of the individual is based on one of a percentage of individuals within a population of individuals exhibiting the initial value of the particular metric related to the popularity profile of the individual, a momentum of the particular metric, a duration of a wager period, and other wagers for the particular metric related to the popularity profile of the individual.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the wager includes a wager amount, a threshold value, and an expiration date and time, and wherein the future value of the particular metric related to the popularity profile of the individual is predicted at the expiration date and time.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the transaction request relates to a wager on the future value of a particular metric related to the popularity profile of the individual.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the computer system is configured to determine a wager payout amount based on a wager amount and a payout factor.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the computer system is configured to determine a payout factor based on the predicted future value of the metric related to the individual.

9 . A system for wagering on an individual, comprising:
a processor; and a memory coupled to the processor, wherein the memory stores executable instructions for causing the processor to
receive a plurality of metrics related to a popularity profile of the individual, wherein at least one metric of the plurality of metrics is based on sentiment analysis,
determine an initial value for each metric related to the popularity profile of the individual,
generate a wager metric of a particular metric related to the popularity profile of the individual based on a transaction request, and
predict a future value of the particular metric based on the initial value of the particular metric and the wager metric.

10 . The system of claim 9 , wherein each wager metric comprises at least one of an amount of the wager, a wager payout, a duration of the wager, a wager outcome, an actual wager outcome, and a historical win/loss record of a participant.

11 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the executable instructions further cause the processor to make multiple predictions for the future value of the at least one metric related to the popularity profile of the individual.

12 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the executable instructions further cause the processor to make a prediction for the future value of the at least one metric related to the popularity profile of the individual based on a trend estimation technique applied to a plurality of historical values of the at least one metric related to the popularity profile of the individual.

13 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the executable instructions further cause the processor to make a prediction for the future value of the at least one metric related to the popularity profile of the individual based on one of a percentage of individuals within a population of individuals exhibiting the initial value of the at least one metric related to the popularity profile of the individual, a momentum of the at least one metric as measured by the popularity profiling system server, a duration of a wager period, and other wagers for the at least one metric related to the popularity profile of the individual.

14 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the executable instructions further cause the processor to determine a wager payout amount based on a wager amount and a payout factor.

15 . The system of claim 14 , wherein the executable instructions further cause the processor to determine a payout factor based on the predicted future value of the at least one metric related to the popularity profile of the individual.

16 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the at least one metric related to the popularity profile of the individual is a qualitative metric related to the popularity profile of the individual.

17 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the at least one metric related to the popularity profile of the individual is a quantitative metric related to the popularity profile of the individual.

18 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the wager includes a wager amount, a threshold value, and an expiration date and time, and wherein the executable instructions further cause the processor to predict the future value of the at least one metric related to the popularity profile of the individual at the expiration date and time.

19 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having processor-executable instructions stored thereon that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to:
receive a plurality of metrics related to a popularity profile of an individual, wherein at least one metric of the plurality of metrics is based on sentiment analysis, determine an initial value for each metric related to the popularity profile of the individual, generate a wager metric of a particular metric related to the popularity profile of the individual based on a transaction request, and predict a future value of the particular metric based on the initial value of the particular metric and the wager metric.

20 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 19 , wherein the transaction request relates to a wager on the future value of a particular metric related to the popularity profile of the individual.
