Method, System and Computer Readable Medium for Addressing Handling from an Operating System

Abstract

A method, system and computer readable medium for information handling within an operating system, including providing a record retrieval program; providing an input device within a window or screen of the operating system and configured to enter an execute command which initiates a record retrieval from local and remote information sources using the record retrieval program; using the record retrieval program to enter first information into search fields provided in the record retrieval program; entering the execute command using the input device after the step of entering the first information; searching, using the record retrieval program, the local and remote information sources for second information associated with the first information; and displaying the second information in the record retrieval program, when one of the local and remote information sources includes second information associated with the first information.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A non-transient computer readable medium for assisting a computer operator to retrieve information, from a database, that is related to text in a document displayed to a user by a computer, the computer readable medium encoded with program instructions for performing computer processes comprising:
 (1) using a first computer program to analyze the document to distinguish between text that is first information and text that is not first information, without any need for prior human designation of which part of the document comprises the first information, so as to identify text within the document as first information;   (2) using the first information previously identified in step (1) to initiate a search in the database, wherein the database is managed by a second computer program distinct from the first computer program, and to locate in the database second information having a pre-existing association in the database with the first information; and   (3) initiating an operation related to the second information previously located in step (2), the operation comprising displaying at least part of the second information on the computer;   wherein processes (1)-(3) require only a single execute command.

         3 . The computer readable medium of  claim 1 , wherein the single execute command comprises:
 selecting a menu indicator for the menu;   opening the menu;   selecting a choice in the menu; and   activating the selected choice in the menu.   
     
     
         4 . The computer readable medium of  claim 1 , wherein the computer readable medium is configured to be used in a cell phone. 
     
     
         5 . A non-transient computer readable medium, for information handling within a document displayed by a first application program executing on a computer, the computer readable medium encoded with program instructions for performing computer processes comprising:
 (i) analyzing at least part of the document to distinguish between text that is first information and text that is not first information, so as to find first information without any need for prior human designation of which part of the document comprises the first information, and, if first information is found, (ii) indicating the first information in the document to alert a user to the first information;   after the analyzing, initiating a search for the previously found first information, in an information source managed by a second application program distinct from the first application program, to find in the information source second information having a pre-existing association in the information source with the first information; and   responding to a user selection by initiating an operation related to the second information, the operation comprising displaying at least part of the second information on the computer.   
     
     
         6 . The computer readable medium of  claim 5 , wherein initiating the search includes initiating the search in the information source over the internet. 
     
     
         7 . The computer readable medium of  claim 5 , wherein the computer readable medium is configured to be used in a cell phone. 
     
     
         8 . The computer readable medium of  claim 5 , wherein the operation comprises inserting the second information into the document. 
     
     
         9 . The computer readable medium of  claim 5 , wherein the operation performed is entering additional data into the information source. 
     
     
         10 . The computer readable medium of  claim 9 , wherein the additional data is supplied by a user. 
     
     
         11 . The computer readable medium of  claim 9 , wherein the additional data is located within the document. 
     
     
         12 . The computer readable medium of  claim 5 , wherein the user selection comprises an activation of a menu by
 selecting a menu indicator for the menu;   opening the menu;   selecting a choice in the menu; and   activating the selected choice in the menu.   
     
     
         13 . The computer readable medium of  claim 5 , wherein the analyzing occurs after the user selection. 
     
     
         14 . A method for information handling within a document displayed by a first application program executing on a computer, the method comprising computer processes of:
 (i) analyzing at least part of the document to distinguish between text that is first information and text that is not first information, so as to find first information without any need for prior human designation of which part of the document comprises the first information, and, if first information is found, (ii) indicating the first information in the document to alert a user to the first information;   after the analyzing, initiating a search for the previously found first information, in an information source managed by a second application program distinct from the first application program, to find in the information source second information having a pre-existing association with the first information in the information source; and   responding to a user selection by initiating an operation related to the second information, the operation comprising displaying at least part of the second information on the computer.   
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 14 , wherein the computer processes are carried out on a cell phone. 
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 14 , wherein the operation initiated is entering additional contact data into the information source. 
     
     
         17 . The method of  claim 16 , wherein the additional data is supplied by a user. 
     
     
         18 . The method of  claim 16 , wherein the additional data is located within the document. 
     
     
         19 . The method of  claim 14 , wherein the operation initiated is inserting the second information into the document. 
     
     
         20 . The method of  claim 14 , wherein initiating the search includes initiating the search in the information source over the internet. 
     
     
         21 . The method of  claim 14 , wherein the user selection comprises an activation of a menu by
 selecting the menu indicator for the menu;   opening the menu;   selecting a choice in the menu; and   activating the selected choice in the menu.   
     
     
         22 . The method of  claim 14 , wherein the analyzing occurs after the user selection. 
     
     
         23 . A method for information handling within a document displayed by a first independently executable computer program, the method comprising computer processes of:
 using an algorithm that distinguishes between text that is first information and text that is not first information without any need for prior human designation of which part of the document comprises the first information, and identifying and thereafter indicating first information in the document as first information;   after the identifying, initiating through the first independently executable computer program a search in an information source for the first information previously identified, wherein the information source is managed by a second independently executable computer program distinct from the first independently executable computer program; and   if (1) the first information is found in the information source, and (2) second information is found in the information source with a pre-existing association with the first information, then retrieving the second information and initiating an operation related to the retrieved second information, the operation comprising displaying at least part of the second information on the computer.
