Claims

Abstract

A display device includes a substrate having a display portion and a peripheral portion surrounding the display portion, and a plurality of pixels formed in the display portion. The plurality of pixels have a switching element, a pixel electrode connected to the switching element, a counter electrode, and a light emitting material layer arranged between the pixel electrode and the counter electrode, respectively, and the counter electrode is arranged in common for the display portion. A bank layer of organic material is arranged between the pixel electrode and the counter electrode and is formed in the display portion and the peripheral portion, with each pixel being divided by the bank layer in the display portion, and the bank layer having at least one opening in the peripheral portion.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A display device comprising:
 a substrate having a display portion and a peripheral portion;   a plurality of first metal signal lines formed in the display portion and the peripheral portion over the substrate;   an organic interlayer film formed in the display portion and the peripheral portion over the first metal signal lines;   an inorganic insulating film is formed between the first metal signal lines and the organic interlayer film in the display portion and the peripheral portion, and   wherein a first opening portion is formed in the inorganic insulating film on the first metal signal at the peripheral portion, and the first opening portion is covered by the organic interlayer film.   
     
     
         2 . A display device according to  claim 1 , wherein the first metal signal line includes aluminum. 
     
     
         3 . A display device according to  claim 2 , wherein a plurality of a second metal signal lines are formed between the first metal signal lines and the inorganic insulating film. 
     
     
         4 . A display device according to  claim 3 , wherein the second metal signal film has a second opening portion, the second opening portion is arranged at a position overlapping with the first opening portion. 
     
     
         5 . A display device according to  claim 3 , wherein the second metal signal line includes aluminum. 
     
     
         6 . A display device according to  claim 3 , wherein the second metal signal line includes aluminum oxide. 
     
     
         7 . A display device according to  claim 2 , wherein the first metal signal lines are a gate signal line or a drain signal line. 
     
     
         8 . A display device according to  claim 1 , wherein the display device is an organic EL display device, and the organic interlayer is a bank film of the organic EL display device. 
     
     
         9 . A display device comprising:
 a substrate having a display portion and a peripheral portion;   a plurality of first metal signal lines formed in the display portion and the peripheral portion over the substrate;   an organic interlayer film formed in the display portion and the peripheral portion over the first metal signal lines;   an inorganic insulating film is formed between the first metal signal lines and the organic interlayer film in the display portion and the peripheral portion,   a plurality of a second metal signal lines are formed between the first metal signal lines and the inorganic insulating film, and   wherein a first opening portion is formed in the second metal lines on the first metal signal at the peripheral portion, and the first opening portion is covered by the inorganic interlayer film.   
     
     
         10 . A display device according to  claim 9 , wherein the first metal signal line includes aluminum. 
     
     
         11 . A display device according to  claim 9 , wherein the second metal signal line includes aluminum oxide.
