Abstract
An electrical connector includes a frame delimiting an elongated open cavity, and having two parallel long sides provided with contact areas capable of cooperating with contact areas of a complementary electrical connector. Each long side is formed of a multilayer printed circuit board.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . An apparatus, comprising:
a first printed circuit board having a top surface including a first pad; a second printed circuit board having a first surface and a second surface and a side surface extending between the first and second surfaces, the first surface including a second pad and the second surface including a third pad, the second printed circuit board further including a first via electrically connecting the second and third pads; wherein the side surface of the second printed circuit board is mounted parallel to the top surface of the first printed circuit board by a weld of at least one of the second and third pads to the first pad.
2 . The apparatus of claim 1 , where the first surface further includes a fourth pad and the second surface further includes a fifth pad, the second printed circuit board further including a second via electrically connecting the fourth and fifth pads.
3 . The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the fourth and fifth pads are electrically connected to the second and third pads by conductive paths on the second printed circuit board.
4 . The apparatus of claim 2 , further comprising an integrated circuit chip arranged within the second printed circuit board and electrically connected to the fourth and fifth pads.
5 . The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the second printed circuit board with the fourth and fifth pads is configured to provide an part of an electrical connector.
6 . The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the electrical connector is a female connector.
7 . The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising an integrated circuit chip arranged within the second printed circuit board and electrically connected to the second and third pads.
8 . The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the integrated circuit chip includes filter circuitry.
9 . The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the integrated circuit chip includes overvoltage protection circuitry.
10 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the second printed circuit board is a multilayer printed circuit board including at least three metal layers.
11 . The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the second pad is formed from one of said at least three metal layers and the third pad is formed from another of said at least three metal layers.
12 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein a length of the first via is exposed at the side surface of the second printed circuit board and wherein said weld joins the exposed length of the first via to the first pad.
13 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first printed circuit board further includes a sixth pad on the top surface, further comprising:
a third printed circuit board having a third surface and a fourth surface and a side surface extending between the third and fourth surfaces, the third surface including a seventh pad and the fourth surface including an eighth pad, the third printed circuit board further including a third via electrically connecting the seventh and eighth pads; wherein the side surface of the third printed circuit board is mounted parallel to the top surface of the first printed circuit board by a weld of at least one of the seventh and eighth pads to the sixth pad.
14 . The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the side surfaces of the second and third printed circuit boards extend parallel to each other on the top surface of the first printed circuit board.
15 . The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the second and third printed circuit boards are configured to provide an part of an electrical connector.
16 . The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the electrical connector is a female connector.
17 . The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the side surfaces of the second and third printed circuit boards extend parallel to each other on the top surface of the first printed circuit board.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
