Executing a default action on a touchscreen device
Abstract
A computer-implemented method for executing a default action on a touchscreen device is provided. The method includes receiving a touch input from a user on a touchscreen device and determining a context associated with the touch input. The context is associated with one or more actions including a default action. The method also includes determining that the received touch input comprises a default gesture, and performing the default action associated with the determined context. The default gesture may be a two-finger double-tap gesture. Systems and machine-readable media are also provided.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A method comprising:
receiving, at a computing device, an indication of a gesture entered by a user at a first location associated with a touchscreen operatively coupled to the computing device; determining, by the computing device, a context of the gesture, based at least in part on a type of the gesture and information that is displayed proximate the first location when the gesture is entered; and outputting, for display, a prompt indicating a plurality of selectable actions associated with the context of the gesture.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein a first selectable action of the plurality of selectable actions is associated with a first application and a second selectable action of the plurality of selectable actions is associated with a second application that is different from the first application.
3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
responsive to receiving an indication of a selection of a first action of the plurality of selectable actions, performing the first action.
4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the first action is associated with at least one of text or an image.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the context of the gesture is determined based at least in part on a type of the information that is displayed proximate the first location when the gesture is entered.
6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the type of the information is associated with at least one of a phone number, URL, email address, physical address, and person's name.
7 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the type of the information is associated with an application for performing at least one of the plurality of selectable actions.
8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of selectable actions comprise system actions.
9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the system actions comprise at least one action associated with editing at least one of text and graphical objects.
10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the at least one action associated with editing the at least one of text and graphical objects comprises at least one of cut, copy, paste, select, delete, and zoom.
11 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
responsive to determining that the gesture is a default gesture, performing a predetermined default action associated with the context of the gesture.
12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the prompt, as output for display, comprises a menu indicating the plurality of selectable actions associated with the context of the gesture.
13 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the gesture comprises a touch input.
14 . A system comprising:
one or more processors; a memory coupled to the one or more processors and storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the system to perform functions that comprise:
receiving an indication of a gesture entered by a user at a first location associated with a touchscreen;
determining a context of the gesture, based at least in part on a type of the gesture and information that is displayed proximate the first location when the gesture is entered; and
outputting, for display, a prompt indicating a plurality of selectable actions associated with the context of the gesture.
15 . The system of claim 14 , wherein a first selectable action of the plurality of selectable actions is associated with a first application and a second selectable action of the plurality of selectable actions is associated with a second application that is different from the first application.
16 . The system of claim 14 , wherein the stored instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the system to perform further functions that comprise:
responsive to receiving an indication of a selection of a first action of the plurality of selectable actions, performing the first action.
17 . The system of claim 14 , wherein the context of the gesture is determined based at least in part on a type of the information that is displayed proximate the first location when the gesture is entered.
18 . The system of claim 14 , wherein the prompt, as output for display, comprises a menu indicating the plurality of selectable actions associated with the context of the gesture.
19 . The system of claim 14 , wherein the gesture comprises a touch input.
20 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause a computing device to perform functions that comprise:
receiving an indication of a gesture entered by a user at a first location associated with a touchscreen; determining a context of the gesture, based at least in part on a type of the gesture and information that is displayed proximate the first location when the gesture is entered; and outputting, for display, a prompt indicating a plurality of selectable actions associated with the context of the gesture.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
