Methods and intermediates for synthesizing triethylenetetramine and salts thereof, as well as novel triethylenetetramine salts and their crystal structure, and triethylenetetramine salts of high purity.

wherein each R of formula (II) is independently methyl carbamate, ethyl carbamate, benzyl carbamate, tert-butyl carbamate, tert-butyloxycarbonyl (Boc), cyclohexanone, 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl cyclohexanone, anthrone, an alkyl group, an aryl group, or an aromatic alkyl group,
or a compound of formula (VI),
wherein each R of formula (VI) is independently methyl carbamate, ethyl carbamate, benzyl carbamate, tert-butyl carbamate, tert-butyloxycarbonyl (Boc), cyclohexanone, 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl cyclohexanone, anthrone, an alkyl group, an aryl group, or an aromatic alkyl group.
2 . The compound of claim 1 , wherein R is tert-butyloxycarbonyl (Boc).
