Remotely updating a hearing aid profile

Abstract

Broadly speaking, the embodiments disclosed herein describe replacing a current hearing aid profile stored in a hearing aid. In one embodiment, the hearing aid profile is updated by sending a hearing aid profile update request to a hearing aid profile service, receiving the updated healing aid profile from the hearing aid profile service, and replacing the current hearing aid profile in the hearing aid with the updated hearing aid profile

         2 . A method for a hearing aid comprising:
 processing an update request for a hearing aid profile, the update request including bundled information characterizing a local audio environment; and   updating the hearing aid profile provide based on the processed bundled information.   
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein the bundled information includes an audio sample, calibration audio file, or meta data characterizing the local audio environment. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 3 , wherein processing the update request includes processing the audio file having a noise component and a target audio component characterizing the local audio environment. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 4 , further comprising adjusting a noise component or target audio component of the hearing aid profile. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 3 , wherein processing the update request includes processing the calibration audio file to determine background noise characteristics of the local audio environment. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 3 , wherein the processing the update request includes processing the meta data including images, video, or commentary data characterizing the local audio environment. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein processing the update request includes processing the update request on a network, wherein the network interconnects a personal communication device with the hearing aid. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 7 , wherein the network communicates data between the personal communication device and the hearing aid on a wireless or wired network. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 7 , wherein the network interconnects a hearing aid profile service with the personal communication device and hearing aid. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 9 , wherein processing the update request includes evaluating the bundled information in the update request by the hearing aid profile service. 
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein updating the hearing aid profile includes updating the hearing aid profile by the hearing aid profile service based on the evaluated bundled information. 
     
     
         13 . A system comprising:
 a hearing aid having a memory storing a hearing aid profile;   a personal communication device to request a profile update for the hearing aid profile, the update request including bundled information characterizing a local audio environment; and   a server coupled to the hearing aid and personal communication device, the server providing a hearing aid update service to update the hearing aid profile stored in the hearing aid based on the processed bundled information.   
     
     
         14 . The system of  claim 13 , wherein the bundled information includes an audio sample, calibration audio file, or meta data characterizing the local audio environment. 
     
     
         15 . The system of  claim 14 , wherein hearing aid update service is to process the audio file having a noise component and a target audio component characterizing the local audio environment. 
     
     
         16 . The system of  claim 15 , wherein the hearing aid update service is to adjust a noise component or target audio component in the stored hearing aid profile. 
     
     
         17 . The system of  claim 14 , wherein hearing aid update service is to process the calibration audio file to determine background noise characteristics of the local audio environment. 
     
     
         18 . The system of  claim 14 , wherein the hearing aid update service is to process the meta data including images, video, or commentary data characterizing the local audio environment. 
     
     
         19 . The system of  claim 13 , wherein the server, hearing aid, and personal communication device are coupled via a wired or wireless network. 
     
     
         20 . A non-transitory machine-readable medium, having instructions, which if executed by a computing device causes the computing device to perform a method comprising:
 processing an update request for a hearing aid profile, the update request including bundled information characterizing a local audio environment; and   updating the hearing aid profile provide based on the processed bundled information.   
     
     
         21 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of  claim 20 , having instructions, which if executed by the computing device causes the computing device to perform a method comprising processing bundled information including an audio sample, calibration audio file, or meta data characterizing the local audio environment.

The non-transitory machine-readable medium of  claim 21 , having instructions, which if executed by a computing device causes the computing device to perform a method comprising processing the audio file having a noise component and a target audio component characterizing the local audio environment. 
     
     
         23 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of  claim 22 , having instructions, which if executed by a computing device causes the computing device to perform a method comprising adjusting a noise component or target audio component of the hearing aid profile. 
     
     
         24 . The method of  claim 3 , wherein processing the update request includes processing the calibration audio file to determine background noise characteristics of the local audio environment.

The non-transitory machine-readable medium of  claim 21 , having instructions, which if executed by a computing device causes the computing device to perform a method comprising processing the meta data including images, video, or commentary data characterizing the local audio environment.
