Home security system with touch-sensitive control panel
Abstract
A security system includes a control panel and sensors for monitoring conditions related to the security of a residential or commercial location. The control panel communicates with the sensors and displays information related to the operation of the security system. The control panel may also receive user input. User input can be received at a touch-sensitive display on the control panel. The touch-sensitive display may be adapted to receive and recognize multiple, simultaneous touches. Different types of touches can be associated with different actions taken by the touch-sensitive display. Detection of types of touches can also include gesture identification. A haptic response may also be provided for giving tactile feedback when input is received at the control panel.

21 . An apparatus for security and/or automation systems, comprising:
a processor; a memory in electronic communication with the processor; a display interface in electronic communication with the processor and memory, wherein the display interface is configured to display a home screen; and instructions stored in the memory, when executed by the processor, are operable to cause the apparatus to:
display a map associated with a structure on the home screen of the display interface;
determine a gesture performed relative to the home screen displayed via the display interface; and
display a security screen associated with a security zone of the map based at least in part on the determined gesture, wherein the security screen is superimposed over the home screen such that the home screen remains at least partially visible.
22 . The apparatus of claim 21 , the apparatus further comprising:
a communication interface configured to receive, transmit, or both receive and transmit data from or to a network.
23 . The apparatus of claim 22 , wherein the instructions stored in the memory are operable to cause the apparatus to:
transmit the data to a remote client device via the network using the communication interface.
24 . The apparatus of claim 22 , wherein the instructions stored in the memory are operable to cause the apparatus to:
receive sensor data from a sensor separate from the apparatus.
25 . The apparatus of claim 24 , wherein the instructions stored in the memory are operable to cause the apparatus to:
monitor a status of the sensor using the communication interface.
26 . The apparatus of claim 24 , wherein the instructions stored in the memory are operable to cause the apparatus to:
display, via the display interface, a status screen that is at least partially superimposed over the home screen, the status screen including the status of the sensor based at least in part on the monitoring.
27 . The apparatus of claim 26 , wherein the home screen remains at least partially visible with the status screen.
28 . The apparatus of claim 22 , wherein the instructions stored in the memory are operable to cause the apparatus to:
identify that the gesture performed relative to the home screen is associated with a request to contact a remote device associated with a remote user; and facilitate a two-way communication between the apparatus and the remote device using the communication interface.
29 . The apparatus of claim 22 , wherein the instructions stored in the memory are operable to cause the apparatus to:
receive a call from a remote device associated with a remote user; and automatically forward the received call to a client device remote from the apparatus using the communication interface.
30 . The apparatus of claim 21 , wherein the instructions stored in the memory are operable to cause the apparatus to:
identify that the gesture performed relative to the home screen is associated with a request to provide a video feed; and provide the video feed for display on a video screen at least partially superimposed over the home screen.
31 . The apparatus of claim 30 , the apparatus further comprising:
a camera in electronic communication with the processor and the memory, wherein providing the video feed for display on the video screen at least partially superimposed over the home screen is based at least in part on data received from the camera.
32 . The apparatus of claim 21 , wherein the instructions stored in the memory are operable to cause the apparatus to:
determine a second gesture performed relative to the security screen displayed via the display interface; and modify a portion of the security screen based at least in part on a characteristic of the second gesture.
33 . The apparatus of claim 32 , wherein the characteristic of the second gesture comprises a direction, a rotation, a length of time, or a combination thereof.
34 . A method for security and/or automation systems, comprising:
displaying a map associated with a structure on the home screen of the display interface of a control panel; determining a gesture performed relative to the home screen displayed via the display interface; and displaying a security screen associated with a security zone of the map based at least in part on the determined gesture, wherein the security screen is superimposed over the home screen such that the home screen remains at least partially visible.
35 . The method of claim 34 , further comprising:
monitoring a status of a sensor in electronic communication with the control panel; and displaying, via the display interface, a status screen superimposed over the home screen, the status screen comprising the status of the sensor based at least in part on the monitoring, wherein the home screen remains partially visible with the status screen.
36 . The method of claim 34 , further comprising:
identifying that the gesture is associated with a request to provide a video feed; and providing the video feed for display on a video screen at least partially superimposed over the home screen.
37 . The method of claim 36 , further comprising:
receiving an input, from a remote device, to modify a characteristic of the displayed video feed, wherein the video feed is captured by a camera associated with the control panel.
38 . The method of claim 37 , wherein the characteristic comprises a pan, a scroll, a zoom or a rotate action, or any combination thereof.
39 . A computer-program product for security and/or automation systems, the computer-program product comprising a non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions executable by a processor to:
display a map, associated with a structure, on a home screen of a display interface associated with a control panel; determine a gesture performed relative to the home screen displayed via the display interface; and display a security screen associated with a security zone of the map based at least in part on the determined gesture, wherein the security screen is superimposed over the home screen such that the home screen remains at least partially visible on the display interface.
40 . The computer-program product of claim 39 , wherein the instructions are executable by the processor to:
