Abstract

The present invention provides for compositions and methods for producing crop plants that are resistant to herbicides. In particular, the present invention provides for sorghum plants, plant tissues and plant seeds that contain altered acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC) genes and proteins that are resistant to inhibition by herbicides that normally inhibit the activity of the ACC protein.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 - 34 . (canceled)

35 : A cultivated sorghum hybrid comprising a polynucleotide comprising a nucleotide sequence having at least 95% homology to SEQ ID NO:1, provided that said nucleotide sequence comprises a nucleotide substitution of guanine substituted with cytosine at position 220 as compared to SEQ ID NO:1, wherein the expression of said polynucleotide confers to said cultivated sorghum hybrid increased resistance to inhibition by one or more acetyl-CoA carboxylase herbicides as compared to a sorghum hybrid not expressing said polynucleotide.

36 : The cultivated sorghum hybrid of claim 35 , wherein said resistance to inhibition by one or more acetyl-CoA carboxylase herbicides is introduced into said germplasm of said cultivated sorghum hybrid by introgression.

37 : The cultivated sorghum hybrid of claim 35 , wherein said polynucleotide comprises a nucleotide sequence represented by SEQ ID NO:1, provided that said sequence comprises a nucleotide substitution of guanine substituted with cytosine at position 220 as compared to SEQ ID NO:1.

38 : The cultivated sorghum hybrid of claim 37 , wherein said resistance to inhibition by one or more acetyl-CoA carboxylase herbicides is introduced into said germplasm of said cultivated sorghum hybrid by introgression.

39 : The cultivated sorghum hybrid of claim 35 , wherein said one or more acetyl-CoA carboxylase herbicides comprise one or more aryloxyphenoxypropionates.

40 : The cultivated sorghum hybrid of claim 39 , wherein said one or more aryloxyphenoxypropionates are selected from the group consisting of clodinafop-propargyl, cyhalofop-butyl, diclofop-methyl, fenoxaprop-P-ethyl, fluazifop-P-butyl, haloxyfop-ethoxyethyl, haloxyfop-etotyl, haloxyfop-R-methyl, propaquizafop, quizalofop-P-ethyl, quizalofop-P-tefuryl, and a combination thereof.
