Abstract

According to the invention there is provided N,N-bis-2-mercaptoethyl isophthalamide, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or derivative thereof, for use in the therapeutic treatment of a neurodegenerative disorder, such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease and/or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
- 2 . (canceled)

. A method of treatment of a neurodegenerative disorder, which method comprises the administration of N,N-bis-2-mercaptoethyl isophthalamide, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or derivative thereof, to a patient in need of such treatment.

. A method of relieving one or more symptom of a neurodegenerative disorder in a patient suffering therefrom, which method comprise administering N,N-bis-2-mercaptoethyl isophthalamide, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or derivative thereof, to such a patient.

. The method as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the neurodegenerative disorder is Alzheimer's disease.

. The method as claimed in claim 5 , wherein the patient is also receiving therapy which comprises administration of an active ingredient selected from a cholinesterase inhibitor or a NMDA receptor antagonist.

. The method as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the neurodegenerative disorder is Parkinson's disease.

. The method as claimed in claim 7 , wherein the patient is also receiving therapy which comprises administration of an active ingredient selected from levodopa (optionally along with a dopamine decarboxylase inhibitor), a dopamine agonist, a MAO-B inhibitor, amantadine or an anticholinergic compound.

. The method as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the neurodegenerative disorder is Huntington's disease.

. The method as claimed in claim 9 , wherein the patient is also receiving therapy which comprises administration of an active ingredient selected from tetrabenazine, amantadine or remacemide.

. The method as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the neurodegenerative disorder is amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

. The method as claimed in claim 11 , wherein the patient is also receiving therapy which comprises administration of riluzole.

. The method as claimed in claim 4 , wherein the neurodegenerative disorder is Alzheimer's disease.

. The method as claimed in claim 13 , wherein the patient is also receiving therapy which comprises administration of an active ingredient selected from a cholinesterase inhibitor or a NMDA receptor antagonist.

. The method as claimed in claim 4 , wherein the neurodegenerative disorder is Parkinson's disease.

. The method as claimed in claim 15 , wherein the patient is also receiving therapy which comprises administration of an active ingredient selected from levodopa (optionally along with a dopamine decarboxylase inhibitor), a dopamine agonist, a MAO-B inhibitor, amantadine or an anticholinergic compound.

. The method as claimed in claim 4 , wherein the neurodegenerative disorder is Huntington's disease.

. The method as claimed in claim 17 , wherein the patient is also receiving therapy which comprises administration of an active ingredient selected from tetrabenazine, amantadine or remacemide.

. The method as claimed in claim 4 , wherein the neurodegenerative disorder is amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

. The method as claimed in claim 19 , wherein the patient is also receiving therapy which comprises administration of riluzole.
