Abstract

Indicia-reading systems include an auxiliary reading apparatus with wireless charging capability. The systems are configured to couple, transfer, and receive energy wirelessly between a base charging station and auxiliary indicia reader via resonating coils that include an impedance matching network. Wireless charging capability can save space at the point-of-sale and add convenience for the operator.

         21 . A point-of-sale indicia-reader, comprising:
 a point of-sale indicia-capturing subsystem for acquiring information about indicia within the point-of-sale indicia capturing subsystem's field of view;   a point of sale indicia-decoding subsystem configured for decoding indicia information acquired by the point-of-sale indicia-capturing subsystem; and   a magnetic resonance module for wirelessly emitting energy to a hand-held indicia reader.   
     
     
         22 . The point-of-sale indicia-reader of  claim 21 , comprising:
 a housing; and   a scan window disposed in the housing on a horizontal plane.   
     
     
         23 . The point-of-sale indicia-reader of  claim 21 , comprising:
 a housing;   a horizontal scan window disposed in the housing on a horizontal plane; and   a vertical scan window disposed in the housing on a vertical plane.   
     
     
         24 . The point-of-sale indicia-reader of  claim 21 , comprising:
 a housing;   a horizontal scan window disposed in the housing on a horizontal plane; and   a vertical scan window disposed in the housing on a vertical plane;   wherein the magnetic resonance module is disposed in the housing behind the vertical scan window.   
     
     
         25 . The point-of-sale indicia-reader of  claim 21 , comprising:
 a housing;   a horizontal scan window disposed in the housing on a horizontal plane; and   a vertical scan window disposed in the housing on a vertical plane;   wherein the magnetic resonance module is disposed in the housing below the horizontal scan window.   
     
     
         26 . The point-of-sale indicia-reader of  claim 21 , comprising:
 a housing;   a horizontal scan window disposed in the housing on a horizontal plane; and   a vertical scan window disposed in the housing on a vertical plane;   wherein the magnetic resonance module is disposed in the housing adjacent the horizontal scan window.   
     
     
         27 . The point-of-sale indicia-reader of  claim 21 , wherein the magnetic resonance module wirelessly emits energy to multiple hand-held indicia readers. 
     
     
         28 . The point-of-sale indicia-reader of  claim 21 , wherein the magnetic resonance module wirelessly emits energy to multiple hand-held indicia readers having different power requirements. 
     
     
         29 . A point-of-sale system, comprising:
 a hand-held indicia reader; and   a point of-sale indicia-reader, comprising:
 a point of-sale indicia-capturing subsystem for acquiring information about indicia within the point-of-sale indicia capturing subsystem's field of view; 
 a point of sale indicia-decoding subsystem configured for decoding indicia information acquired by the point-of-sale indicia-capturing subsystem; and 
 a magnetic resonance module for wirelessly emitting energy to the hand-held indicia reader. 
   
     
     
         30 . The point-of-sale system of  claim 29 , wherein the point of-sale indicia-reader comprises:
 a housing; and   a scan window disposed in the housing on a horizontal plane.

 a housing;   a horizontal scan window disposed in the housing on a horizontal plane; and   a vertical scan window disposed in the housing on a vertical plane.   
     
     
         32 . The point-of-sale system of  claim 29 , wherein the point of-sale indicia-reader comprises:
 a housing;   a horizontal scan window disposed in the housing on a horizontal plane; and   a vertical scan window disposed in the housing on a vertical plane;   wherein the magnetic resonance module is disposed in the housing behind the vertical scan window.   
     
     
         33 . The point-of-sale system of  claim 29 , wherein the point of-sale indicia-reader comprises:
 a housing;   a horizontal scan window disposed in the housing on a horizontal plane; and   a vertical scan window disposed in the housing on a vertical plane;   wherein the magnetic resonance module is disposed in the housing below the horizontal scan window.   
     
     
         34 . The point-of-sale system of  claim 29 , wherein the point of-sale indicia-reader comprises:
 a housing;   a horizontal scan window disposed in the housing on a horizontal plane; and   a vertical scan window disposed in the housing on a vertical plane;   wherein the magnetic resonance module is disposed in the housing adjacent the horizontal scan window.   
     
     
         35 . The point-of-sale system of  claim 29 , wherein the magnetic resonance module wirelessly emits energy to multiple hand-held indicia readers. 
     
     
         36 . The point-of-sale system of  claim 29 , wherein the magnetic resonance module wirelessly emits energy to multiple hand-held indicia readers having different power requirements. 
     
     
         37 . A point-of-sale indicia-reader, comprising:
 a housing;   a horizontal scan window disposed in the housing on a horizontal plane;   a vertical scan window disposed in the housing on a vertical plane;   a point of-sale indicia-capturing subsystem disposed in the housing for acquiring information about indicia adjacent the horizontal scan window and/or the vertical scan window;   a point of sale indicia-decoding subsystem disposed in the housing configured for decoding indicia information acquired by the point-of-sale indicia-capturing subsystem; and   a magnetic resonance module disposed in the housing for wirelessly emitting energy to a hand-held indicia reader.   
     
     
         38 . The point-of-sale indicia-reader of  claim 37 , wherein the magnetic resonance module is disposed in the housing behind the vertical scan window, below the horizontal scan window, and/or adjacent the horizontal scan window. 
     
     
         39 . The point-of-sale indicia-reader of  claim 37 , wherein the magnetic resonance module wirelessly emits energy to multiple hand-held indicia readers. 
     
     
         40 . The point-of-sale indicia-reader of  claim 37 , wherein the magnetic resonance module wirelessly emits energy to multiple hand-held indicia readers having different power requirements.
