Abstract

A medical device and related method of use for resecting a tissue. The medical device may include an elongate member having a proximal end, a distal end, and a lumen extending therebetween, The elongate member may include a distal portion defining a cavity having an opening. In addition, a mechanism may be configured to adjust a volume of the cavity by altering a depth of the cavity.

         21 . A medical device, comprising:
 a member having a proximal end, a distal end, and one or more lumens extending therebetween defining an axis in a longitudinal direction;   at least one rail extending in the longitudinal direction; and   a hood at the distal end and slidably movable along the at least one rail to define a distal-facing cavity.   
     
     
         22 . The medical device of  claim 21 , wherein the hood includes at least one groove or projection along an inner surface of the hood, and wherein the at least one groove or projection slidably couples the hood to the at least one rail. 
     
     
         23 . The medical device of  claim 22 , wherein the at least one rail is coupled to the distal end of the member via a removably attachable cap. 
     
     
         24 . The medical device of  claim 21 , wherein the hood is slidably movable between at least a proximalmost position and a distalmost position along the at least one rail to limit an amount of tissue received within the distal-facing cavity. 
     
     
         25 . The medical device of  claim 21 , further including a lock that secures a position of the hood relative to the member. 
     
     
         26 . The medical device of  claim 21 , wherein at least a portion of the hood includes a tapered thickness towards a distal end of the hood. 
     
     
         27 . The medical device of  claim 26 , wherein the tapered thickness includes an outer surface of the hood that tapers radially inward. 
     
     
         28 . The medical device of  claim 21 , further including at least one of a light source, a camera, an injector, a morcellator, a suction source, and/or a ligation band positioned within the one or more lumens and facing or extending into the distal-facing cavity. 
     
     
         29 . The medical device of  claim 21 , further including an adjustment mechanism positioned on at least the proximal end of the member that controls a position of the hood relative to the distal end of the member. 
     
     
         30 . A medical device, comprising:
 a member having a proximal end, a distal end, and at least one lumen extending from the proximal end to the distal end and defining an axis in a longitudinal direction;   a hood including an outer surface that tapers radially inward in a distal direction; and   a coupling mechanism configured to slidably couple the hood to the distal end of the member such that the hood is movable in the longitudinal direction.   
     
     
         31 . The medical device of  claim 30 , wherein a position of the hood relative to the distal end of the member controls an amount of tissue received within the hood. 
     
     
         32 . The medical device of  claim 30 , wherein the coupling mechanism includes at least one cap member removably coupled to the distal end. 
     
     
         33 . The medical device of  claim 32 , wherein the at least one cap member includes at least one longitudinal rail, and
 wherein the hood includes at least one groove or projection coupled to the at least one longitudinal rail.   
     
     
         34 . The medical device of  claim 30 , wherein the coupling mechanism is configured to removably couple the hood to the distal end of the member. 
     
     
         35 . The medical device of  claim 30 , wherein the medical device is an endoscope, and wherein the hood includes at least one radiopaque marking at a distal portion of the hood. 
     
     
         36 . The medical device of  claim 30 , wherein a distal portion of the hood is flexible, and a proximal portion of the hood is rigid. 
     
     
         37 . A medical device, comprising:
 a longitudinally extending member including a plurality of lumens extending from a proximal end to a distal end;   a tubular member removably mounted on and slidable along the distal end of the longitudinally extending member to define a cavity; and   an adjustable tissue acquisition mechanism;   wherein the adjustable tissue acquisition mechanism controls an amount of tissue acquired by the cavity by adjustably positioning the tubular member relative to the distal end of the longitudinally extending member.   
     
     
         38 . The medical device of  claim 37 , wherein the adjustable tissue acquisition mechanism includes at least one rail on an outer surface of the longitudinally extending member and at least one groove or projection on an inner surface of the tubular member. 
     
     
         39 . The medical device of  claim 37 , wherein the adjustable tissue acquisition mechanism includes a locking mechanism to secure a position of the tubular member relative to the distal end of the longitudinally extending member and lock a size of the cavity. 
     
     
         40 . The medical device of  claim 37 , further including a suction source positioned within one of the lumens and facing or extending into the distal-facing cavity.
