Abstract
The present disclosure relates generally to a system and method for testing and determining a visual field of a patient. In an example embodiment, a method includes instructing a computerized screen to display to a first visual field diagram to a patient, wherein the first visual field diagram includes a selected portion and instructing the patient to focus on the selected portion of the first visual field diagram. The example method also includes modifying the first visual field diagram to temporarily display an additional feature in an area corresponding to a part of the patient's visual field and receiving an input indicative that the patient saw the temporarily displayed additional feature. The example method further includes determining that the patient has vision in the part of the patient's visual field corresponding to the area in which the temporarily displayed additional feature was displayed based on the received input.

1 . A method for testing and determining a visual field of a patient, the method comprising:
(i) instructing, via a processor, a computerized screen to display to a first visual field diagram to the patient, wherein the first visual field diagram includes a selected portion; (ii) instructing, via the processor, the patient to focus on the selected portion of the first visual field diagram; (iii) modifying, via the processor, the first visual field diagram to temporarily display in the computerized screen an additional feature in an area corresponding to a part of the patient's visual field; (iv) receiving, in the processor, an input indicative that the patient saw the temporarily displayed additional feature; (v) determining, via the processor, that the patient has vision in the part of the patient's visual field corresponding to the area in which the temporarily displayed additional feature was displayed based on the received input; and (vi) providing an indication, via the processor, that the patient has vision in the part of the patient's visual field.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the visual field of the patient further comprises repeating steps (iii) and (v) to fully test the patient's visual field and determining the patient's visual field based on the inputs from the patient, or lack thereof.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the patient is enabled to make an input to adjust at least one characteristic selected from the group consisting of the duration of the temporary display of the additional feature; the light intensity of the additional feature; the color of the additional feature; and combinations thereof.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the additional feature is a weak dot.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the computerized screen comprises two or more computerized screens, and
wherein at least one of the computerized screens is enabled to operate as a remote for at least one of the other computerized screens.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the method is provided via an internet.
7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising,
determining, via the processor, that the patient failed to make an input corresponding to the temporarily displayed additional feature; and flagging, via the processor, that area corresponding to the part of the patient's visual field for re-testing.
8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining, via the processor, whether the patient has moved during the testing.
9 . A method for testing and determining a visual field of a patient, the method comprising:
displaying, via a processor, a visual field grid diagram to the patient within a computerized screen, wherein the first visual field grid diagram includes a selected portion; instructing, via the processor, the patient to focus on the selected portion of the visual field diagram; and enabling, via the processor, the patient to make at least one input, wherein the at least one input corresponds to an area in the visual field grid diagram that appears to the patient to be missing or distorted.
10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the method is provided via an internet.
11 . The method of claim 9 , further comprising:
iteratively modifying, via the processor, at least one of the color, shape, and light intensity of the area corresponding to the at least one patient input; and enabling, via the processor, the patient to make an input indicating whether the modification improved the patient's vision in that area of the visual field grid diagram, wherein the iteration continues until the patient makes an input indicating that the area appears to be clear and not distorted.
12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the amount and type of modification corresponds to magnification of a spectacle lens corresponding to the area corresponding to the at least one patient input.
13 . The method of claim 9 , further comprising sending, via the processor information regarding the visual field for review by a medical practitioner.
14 . A method for determining a corneal steepness of an eye of a patient, the method comprising:
illuminating the eye of the patient with at least two concentric rings, wherein the rings are separated by a predetermined distance; receiving an image of the patient's eye illuminated with the rings; and determining the corneal steepness of the eye of the patient based on a comparison of the apparent distance of the rings the image of the patient's eye to the predetermined distance.
15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the image is received from a device selected from the group consisting of a digital camera, a camera phone, a camera-enabled personal computer, a camera-enabled tablet, a camera-enabled person terminal, a camera-enabled kiosk; and
combinations thereof.
16 . The method of claim 14 , wherein there are three or more concentric rings, each spaced the same predetermined distance apart.
17 . The method of claim 14 , wherein there are three or more concentric rings, with at least one ring spaced a different predetermined distance apart.
18 . The method of claim 14 , wherein determining the corneal steepness of the eye of the patient includes determining if the patient has any corneal surface abnormalities.
19 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the corneal steepness is sent to a medical practitioner for review.
