Dynamic game decoy

Abstract

An apparatus and method for attracting game animals such as a turkey. An asymmetric canopy is provided with the image of a game animal such as a turkey. The canopy is coupled to a shaft and a plurality of extensible rib assemblies. A runner provided along the shaft and coupled to the extensible rib assemblies deploys and collapses the canopy as the runner is moved back and forth. The canopy is provided with a truncated flat bottom so as not to interfere with a hunters feet when the hunter is moving and to reduce snagging of the canopy on weeds and brush. The canopy may be deployed and collapsed to mimic the action of a strutting tom turkey.

         2 . An asymmetric turkey decoy comprising:
 (a) an asymmetric canopy having a bottom and a top;   (b) a shaft contacting the canopy at a contact point;   (c) wherein the shaft extends at least partially below the canopy;   (d) wherein the canopy is provided with a generally flattened bottom portion below the contact point and a generally semi-circular top portion above the contact point;   (e) wherein when the shaft is horizontal, the bottom and the top of the canopy are asymmetric;   (f) an image of a turkey provided on the canopy, wherein the image of the turkey comprises a body and a tail;   (g) wherein when the shaft is horizontal, at least a portion of the tail is located between the body and the top of the canopy;   (h) a slide slidably coupled to the shaft;   (i) at least seven first extensible rib assemblies coupled between the canopy and the shaft, wherein the first extensible rib assemblies extend across the generally semi-circular top portion;   (j) at least four second extensible rib assemblies coupled between the canopy and the shaft, wherein the second extensible rib assemblies extend across the generally flattened bottom portion;   (k) wherein the second extensible rib assemblies are shorter than the first extensible rib assemblies;   (l) wherein the, slide is slidable between a first position, where the first extensible rib assemblies and second extensible rib assemblies collapse the asymmetric canopy, and a second position, where the first extensible rib assemblies and second extensible rib assemblies open the asymmetric canopy; and   (m) wherein when in the second position, the bottom of the canopy is closer to the shaft than the top of the canopy.   
     
     
         3 . The asymmetric decoy of  claim 2 , wherein as compared to an actual turkey body and actual turkey tail, the scale of the tail is at least 3% greater than the scale of the body. 
     
     
         4 . The asymmetric decoy of  claim 2 , wherein as compared to an actual turkey body and actual turkey tail, the scale of the tail is at least 5% greater than the scale of the body. 
     
     
         5 . The asymmetric decoy of  claim 2 , wherein as compared to an actual turkey body and actual turkey tail, the scale of the tail is at least 8% greater than the scale of the body. 
     
     
         6 . The asymmetric decoy of  claim 2 , further comprising a viewing port located in the canopy. 
     
     
         7 . The asymmetric decoy of  claim 6 , further comprising a screen provided over at least a portion of the viewing port. 
     
     
         8 . An asymmetric turkey decoy comprising:
 (a) an asymmetric canopy having a bottom and a top;   (b) a shaft contacting the canopy at a contact point;   (c) wherein the shaft extends at least partially below the canopy;   (d) wherein the canopy is provided with a generally flattened bottom portion below the contact point and a generally semi-circular top portion above the contact point;   (e) wherein when the shaft is horizontal, the bottom and the top of the canopy are asymmetric;   (f) an image of a turkey provided on the canopy, wherein the image of the turkey comprises a body and a tail;   (g) wherein when the shaft is horizontal, at least a portion of the tail is located between the body and the top of the canopy;   (h) a slide slidably coupled to the shaft;   (i) a first set of extensible rib assemblies coupled between the canopy and the shaft, wherein the first set of extensible rib assemblies extends across the generally semi-circular top portion;   (j) a second set of extensible rib assemblies coupled between the canopy and the shaft. wherein the second set of extensible rib assemblies extends across the generally flattened bottom portion;   (k) a third set of extensible rib assemblies coupled between the canopy and the shall, wherein the third set of extensible rib assemblies extends across the generally flattened bottom portion;   (l) wherein the second set of extensible rib assemblies are shorter than the first set of extensible rib assemblies;   (m) wherein the third set of extensible rib assemblies are shorter than the second set of extensible rib assemblies;   (n) wherein the slide is slidable between a first position, where the first set of extensible rib assemblies, the second set of extensible rib assemblies, and the third set of extensible rib assemblies collapse the asymmetric canopy, and a second position, where the first set of extensible rib assemblies, the second set of extensible rib assemblies, and the third set of extensible rib assemblies open the asymmetric canopy; and   (o) wherein when in the second position, the bottom of the canopy is closer to the shaft than the top of the canopy.   
     
     
         9 . The asymmetric decoy of  claim 8 , wherein as compared to an actual turkey body and actual turkey tail, the scale of the tail is at least 3% greater than the scale of the body. 
     
     
         10 . The asymmetric decoy of  claim 8 , wherein as compared to an actual turkey body and actual turkey tail, the scale of the tail is at least 5% greater than the scale of the body. 
     
     
         11 . The asymmetric decoy of  claim 8 , wherein as compared to an actual turkey body and actual turkey tail, the scale of the tail is at least 8% greater than the scale of the body. 
     
     
         12 . The asymmetric decoy of  claim 8 , further comprising a viewing port located in the canopy. 
     
     
         13 . The asymmetric decoy of  claim 12 , further comprising a screen provided over at least a portion of the viewing port.
