Abstract
A device for carrying cordage includes a flexible, elongate and planar inner core having two opposite longitudinal sides and two opposite ends; and a cord wound around the two opposite longitudinal sides of the inner core along a longitudinal direction between the two opposite ends. The inner core and the wound cord together form an insert which has sufficient rigidity that facilitates full insertion of the insert into the sheath, strap, belt, or enclosure without bunching or kinking of the cord in a way that blocks a trailing portion of the cord from inserting into the sheath, strap, belt, or enclosure. A method for manufacturing the device is also disclosed.

1 . A device for carrying cordage that allows a significant length of cord to be inserted into a space formed between a top layer and a bottom layer of a sheath, strap, belt, or enclosure through an open end thereof, the device comprising:
(a) a flexible, elongate and planar inner core having two opposite longitudinal sides and two opposite ends; and (b) a cord wound around the two opposite longitudinal sides of the inner core along a longitudinal direction between the two opposite ends; (c) wherein the inner core and the wound cord together formed an insert which has sufficient rigidity that facilitates full insertion of the insert into the sheath, strap, belt, or enclosure without bunching or kinking of the cord in a way that blocks a trailing portion of the cord from inserting into the sheath, strap, belt, or enclosure.
2 . The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the two opposite ends are in the form of two enlarged ends integrally formed with the inner core.
3 . The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the inner core is wound therearound with a plurality of cords having different sizes, weights, and tensile strengths.
4 . The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the inner core is wound therearound with cordage, wire, fishing line, or a combination thereof.
5 . The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the insert is insertable into and removable from the sheath, strap, belt, or enclosure without affecting original function and usage of the sheath, strap, belt, or enclosure; and the cord is cut or removed from the inner core without reducing length of the sheath, strap, belt, or enclosure.
6 . The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the amount of cord stored in the sheath, strap, belt, or enclosure is not dependent upon length of the sheath, strap, belt, or enclosure.
7 . The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the cord wound around the inner core is a continuous length of cord.
8 . The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the inner core is made of plastic, and one of the two opposite ends of the inner core is molded into a whistle.
9 . The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the inner core is made of a plastic sheet.
10 . The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the inner core is made of waterproof paper.
11 . The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the inner core is a multifold waterproof paper with survival instructions printed thereon.
12 . The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the inner core is a folded emergency blanket.
13 . The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the inner core is made of aluminum foil.
14 . The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the inner core has a width of 10 mm.
15 . The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the cord is color coded.
16 . The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the cord is tagged.
17 . The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein one of the two opposite ends of the inner core is a tapering end that facilitates insertion of the insert into the sheath, strap, belt, or enclosure.
18 . The device as claimed in claim 17 , wherein the tapering end is semi-circular in shape.
19 . The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein a surface of the inner core is provided with a packet for storing survival items.
