Method and system of displaying information related to items offered for sale in a network-based marketplace

Abstract

System, methods are media for providing supplemental item information at a publication server are provided. In one example, a method includes accessing first data corresponding to each of a first group of content items and identifying in the first group of content items a set of active items published in a first display format. A set of one or more selection criteria for reviewing the set of active items is identified. In one example, the one or more selection criteria includes an item activity level. If the item activity level is below a certain threshold, supplemental information for that item is identified and provided to the publication server for publication.

1 . A computer implemented method, at a publication server, the method comprising, by one or more processors of the computer,
 accessing first data corresponding to each of a first group of content items and identifying in the first group of content items a set of active items published in a first display format:
 identifying a set of one or more selection criteria for reviewing the set of active items, the one or more selection criteria including an item activity level; 
 selecting an active item of interest based on the item activity level; 
 accessing second data corresponding to each of a second group of content items, and generating supplemental information associated with the selected active item; 
 generating video content or stream related to the supplemental information and an image of the active item of interest; 
 incorporating at least one module into the publication server to configure a capability of a remote user device to display the active item of interest in a second display format, wherein the second display format includes size and bandwidth criteria for delivering the supplemental information; and 
 causing the display, by a display of the remote user device, the second display format wherein the image of the active item is displayed in a first portion of the display in conjunction with the video content or stream relating to the supplemental information displayed in a second portion of the display. 
   
     
     
         2 . The computer implemented method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 including, in the video content or snippet, information related to an active item.   
     
     
         3 . The computer implemented method of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 pushing the video content or snippet to an online viewing page associated with an item offered for sale at a marketplace location.   
     
     
         4 . The computer implemented method of  claim 1 , wherein the information related to the active items offered includes information about at least one of the active items, sellers of the active items, or buyers of the active items. 
     
     
         5 . The computer implemented method of  claim 1 , wherein the active items include at least one of items currently offered for sale or items previously offered for sale. 
     
     
         6 . A machine-readable medium comprising instructions, which when read by a machine, cause the machine to perform operations comprising, at least:
 accessing first data corresponding to each of a first group of content items and identifying in the first group of content items a set of active items published in a first display format;   identifying a set of one or more selection criteria for reviewing the set of active items, the one or more selection criteria including an item activity level;   selecting an active item of interest based on the item activity level;   accessing second data corresponding to each of a second group of content items, and generating supplemental information associated with the selected active item;   generating video content or stream related to the supplemental information and an image of the active item of interest;   incorporating at least one module into the publication server to configure a capability of a remote user device to display the active item of interest in a second display format, wherein the second display format includes size and bandwidth criteria for delivering the supplemental information; and   causing the display, by a display of the remote user device, the second display format wherein the image of the active item is displayed in a first portion of the display in conjunction with the video content or stream relating to the supplemental information displayed in a second portion of the display.   
     
     
         7 . The machine-readable medium of  claim 6 , wherein the operations further comprise including, in the video content or snippet, information related to an active item. 
     
     
         8 . The machine-readable medium of  claim 6 , wherein the operations further comprise pushing the video content or snippet to an online viewing page associated with an item offered for sale at a marketplace location. 
     
     
         9 . The machine-readable medium of  claim 6 , wherein the information related to the active items offered includes information about at least one of the active items, sellers of the active items, or buyers of the active items. 
     
     
         10 . The machine-readable medium of  claim 6 , wherein the active items include at least one of items currently offered for sale or items previously offered for sale. 
     
     
         11 . A system comprising:
 memory; and   one or more computer processors specially configured to perform operations comprising, at least:
 accessing first data corresponding to each of a first group of content items and identifying in the first group of content items a set of active items published in a first display format; 
 identifying a set of one or more selection criteria for reviewing the set of active items, the one or more selection criteria including an item activity level; 
 selecting an active item of interest based on the item activity level; 
 accessing second data corresponding to each of a second group of content items, and generating supplemental information associated with the selected active item; 
 generating video content or stream related to the supplemental information and an image of the active item of interest; 
 incorporating at least one module into the publication server to configure a capability of a remote user device to display the active item of interest in a second display format, wherein the second display format includes size and bandwidth criteria for delivering the supplemental information; and 
 causing the display, by a display of the remote user device, the second display format wherein the image of the active item is displayed in a first portion of the display in conjunction with the video content or stream relating to the supplemental information displayed in a second portion of the display. 
   
     
     
         12 . The system of  claim 11 , wherein the one or more processors is further configured to include, in the video content or snippet, information related to an active item. 
     
     
         13 . The system of  claim 11 , wherein the one or more processors is further configured to push the video content or snippet to an online viewing page associated with an item offered for sale at a marketplace location. 
     
     
         14 . The system of  claim 11 , wherein the information related to the active items offered includes information about at least one of the active items, sellers of the active items, or buyers of the active items. 
     
     
         15 . The system of  claim 11 , wherein the active items include at least one of items currently offered for sale or items previously offered for sale.
