System and method for dynamically retrieving data specific to a region of a layer

Abstract

A system may provide for retrieving data within a selected region of a map is provided. The system may include mobile devices configured to display a map and to receive a user selection of a region of the map. An application server may receive data from the mobile device, representing the user selected region of the map and a search criterion. A database may be in operative communication with the application server and executes a query using the data representing the selected region of the map and the search criterion and to return data results corresponding to a plurality of locations within the selected region and related to the search criterion. The mobile device may further be configured to display the data results corresponding to the plurality of locations on the selected region of the map and the displayed data results are automatically updated when the user moves the selected region of the map.

We claim: 
     
         1 . A system for retrieving data within a selected region of a map, comprising:
 a mobile device configured to display a map and to receive a user selection of a region of the map;   an application server configured to receive data from the mobile device representing the user selected region of the map and a search criterion;   a database in operative communication with the application server configured to execute a query using the data representing the selected region of the map and the search criterion and to return data results corresponding to a plurality of locations within the selected region and related to the search criterion;   wherein the mobile device is further configured to display the data results corresponding to the plurality of locations on the selected region of the map,   further wherein the displayed data results are automatically updated when the user moves the selected region of the map.
