Abstract

Method for modulating oxidative stress, inflammation, and impaired insulin sensitivity in a subject by using a grape seed extract, the method being useful in modulating post-prandial oxidative stress, inflammation, and impaired insulin sensitivity in patients suffering from Metabolic Syndrome (MetS). The method comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount of a grape seed extract and a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient. The grape seed extract is a polyphenolic extract comprising proanthocyanidins and anthocyanidins.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 - 24 . (canceled)

25 . A method for preventing Metabolic Syndrome in a subject comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount of a grape seed extract to the subject.

         26 . (canceled)

27 . The method of claim 25 , wherein the grape seed extract is a polyphenolic extract comprising 4-11° A monomers, 4-9% dimers, 2-4% trimers, 1-4% tetramers, and 1′)/0 or less of pentamers expressed as % by weight as epicatechin equivalents, and having an epicatechin gallate terminal unit content of 5wt% or more.

28 . The method of claim 27 , wherein the grape seed extract has 0-2wt% of free gallic acid.

29 . The method of claim 27 , wherein the grape seed extract comprises 12wt% or more epicatechin gallate units.

30 . The method of claim 27 , wherein the grape seed extract comprises 5.7% gallic acid, 6.7% catechin, 4.8% epicatechin, 34.4% dimer B, and 46.1% polymer.
