Construction and hub structures therefrom

Abstract

Primary architectural hubs useful for providing geodesic structures, the hubs provided enabling a strut configuration interface having increased strength over analogous articles of the prior art. In some embodiments are provided secondary hubs attached to the primary hubs, which provide for truss configurations enabling rectangular apertures such as doors to be affixed to a geodesic structure without compromising the strength of the geodesic structure as a whole, which was the case with prior art geodesic structures.

1 . A geodesic construction comprising:
 (1) a plurality of primary hubs, each primary hub having a top side, a bottom side and a side wall; the primary hub further comprising:
 (a) a central primary hub recess with sides and a bottom; 
 (b) a plurality of circumjacent recesses about the central primary hub recess; 
 (c) a plurality of bores within the circumjacent recesses communicating with the central primary hub recess; 
   (2) interconnectable with the primary hubs, a plurality of primary struts, each strut having length, sides, and an end insertable into one of the circumjacent recesses, that together with the primary hubs form a geodesic lattice;   (3) mateable to the primary hubs, an assembly including secondary hubs and secondary struts each having a length and sides; and,   (4) a plurality of panel support portions, each panel support portion having ends, a top side, a bottom side and edges having a longitudinal recess contoured to receive and mateably interlock with the sides of the primary or the secondary struts, wherein oppositely mountable panel support portions are adapted to substantially envelope the length of the primary struts or the length of the secondary struts.   
     
     
         2 . The construction according to  claim 1 , further comprising environmental sealing means which includes a compressible juncture between panels and the primary or secondary struts. 
     
     
         3 . The construction according to  claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of secondary hubs which are connectable to the primary hubs. 
     
     
         4 . The construction according to  claim 1  wherein the secondary struts are configured to reinforce the primary struts surrounding customized openings in the geodesic structure.
