Abstract

A device receives, from a client device, a request for a resource, and accesses a table that includes one or more items of information. The device compares information provided in the request to the one or more items of information provided in the table, and terminates a connection for the request at the device when the information provided in the request matches at least one of the one or more items of information provided in the table. The device forwards the request to a network when the connection is not terminated at the device, and selects a target device for the resource when the connection is terminated at the device.

 the target device including one of the plurality of server devices or the local cache; and
   providing, by the computing device and to the network device, information identifying the target device.

         27 . The method of claim 26 , where the target device is selected based on one or more of:
 a bandwidth of the network, costs associated with the network, a load provided on the network, or a physical location of the target device in relation to a client device requesting the resource.

         28 . The method of claim 26 , where the request includes a domain name and a uniform resource locator (URL) associated with the resource and the method further comprises:
 selecting the target device for the resource based on the domain name and the URL.

         29 . The method of claim 26 , where the target device includes a device associated with a federated service provider network that provides resources to the network in case of failure of the network or components of the network.

         30 . The method of claim 26 , where the request includes information identifying at least one of:
 a destination Internet protocol (IP) address, an IP address of a client device requesting the resource, or a destination port.

         31 . The method of  claim 26 , where:
 the network device is an edge device that is an entry point to the network, and the resource is a file.

         32 . A computing device, comprising:
 a memory to store:
 local cache information that identifies resources stored in a local cache of a network device,
 resource information that identifies resources stored by each of a plurality of server devices, and
 network information that identifies topology, load, and costs of a network associated with the network device; and
   a processor, coupled to the memory, to:
 receive, from the network device, a request for a resource;
 select, based on one or more of the local cache information, the resource information, or the network information, a target device that includes the resource,
 the target device including one of the plurality of server devices or the local cache; and

 provide, to the network device, information identifying the target device.

         33 . The computing device of claim 32 , where the target device is selected based on one or more of:
 a bandwidth of the network, costs associated with the network, a load provided on the network, or a physical location of the target device in relation to a client device requesting the resource.

         34 . The computing device of claim 32 , where the request includes a domain name and a uniform resource locator (URL) associated with the resource and the processor is further to:
 select the target device for the resource based on the domain name and the URL.

         35 . The computing device of claim 32 , where the target device includes a device associated with a federated service provider network that provides resources to the network in case of failure of the network or components of the network.

         36 . The computing device of claim 32 , where the request includes information identifying at least one of:
 a destination Internet protocol (IP) address, an IP address of a client device requesting the resource, or a destination port.

         37 . The computing device of claim 32 , where:
 the network device is an edge device that is an entry point to the network, and the resource is a file.

         38 . The computing device of claim 32 , where the request includes destination information that is different from the information identifying the target device.

         39 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions, the instructions comprising:
 one or more instructions that, when executed by at least one processor of a device, cause the at least one processor to:
 receive local cache information from a network device,
 the local cache information identifying resources stored in a local cache of the network device;

 receive resource information from a plurality of server devices,
 the resource information identifying resources stored by each of the plurality of server devices;

 receive network information from a network associated with the network device,
 the network information identifying topology, load, and costs associated with the network;

 store the local cache information, the resource information, and the network information;
