Abstract
While an information handling device is in a reduced power state, the information handling device transitions from the reduced power state to a higher power state in response to receiving a message over an established wireless network connection that maintains a presence on a wireless network. In turn, the information handling device processes the message accordingly in the higher power state.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . An information handling system comprising:
one or more processors; a memory accessible by at least one of the processors; at least first and second wireless devices accessible by at least one of the processors; a set of instructions stored in the memory and executable by at least one of the processors to: enter a reduced power state; enable the first wireless device in response to the information handling system entering the reduced power state, wherein the first wireless device is enabled such that it at least wirelessly connects to a network; receive a first message received over the wireless network through an established network connection that maintains a presence on the wireless network; provide a second message over the established network connection to a sender of the first message, the second message containing information that the information handling system is in the reduced power state.
2 . The information handling system of claim 1 , wherein the first and second messages are instant messages.
3 . The information handling system of claim 2 , wherein the instructions are further executable to:
in response to receipt of the first message, store the first message at the information handling device, the stored first message being observable at the information handling system upon the information handling system being transitioned from the reduced power state to a higher power state.
4 . The information handling system of claim 3 , wherein the information handling system is a laptop computer, and wherein the laptop computer is transitioned from the reduced power state to the higher power state at least in part based on the laptop computer being transitioned from a closed configuration to an at least partially open configuration.
5 . The information handling system of claim 1 , wherein the instructions are further executable to:
transition from the reduced power state to a higher power state; enable the second wireless device; establish a subsequent network connection using the second wireless device; receive a third message over the subsequent network connection; and process the third message.
6 . The information handling system of claim 5 , wherein at least the second and third messages are instant messages.
7 . The information handling system of claim 1 , wherein the second message contains information that observation of the first message will not occur until a later time.
8 . The information handling system of claim 1 , wherein the second message includes information pertaining to additional messages being receivable by the information handling device while in the reduced power state.
9 . A method, comprising:
entering a reduced power state at an information handling device; enabling a first wireless device of the information handling device in response to the information handling system entering the reduced power state, wherein the first wireless device is enabled such that it at least wirelessly connects to a network; receiving a first message received over the wireless network through an established network connection that maintains a presence on the wireless network; providing a second message over the established network connection to a sender of the first message, the second message containing information that the information handling system is in the reduced power state.
10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the first and second messages are instant messages.
11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the method further comprises:
in response to receiving the first message, storing the first message at the information handling device, the stored first message being observable at the information handling system upon the information handling system being transitioned from the reduced power state to a higher power state.
12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the information handling system is a laptop computer, and wherein the laptop computer is transitioned from the reduced power state to the higher power state at least in part based on the laptop computer being transitioned from a closed configuration to an at least partially open configuration.
13 . The method of claim 9 , further comprising:
transitioning the information handling system from the reduced power state to a higher power state; enabling a second wireless device of the information handling system; establishing a subsequent network connection using the second wireless device; receiving a third message over the subsequent network connection; and processing the third message.
14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein at least the second and third messages are instant messages.
15 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the second message contains information that observation of the first message will not occur until a later time.
16 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the second message includes information pertaining to additional messages being receivable by the information handling device while in the reduced power state.
17 . A computer readable storage medium that is not a carrier wave, the computer readable storage medium bearing instructions executable by a processor to:
enter a reduced power state at an information handling system; enable a first wireless device of the information handling system in response to the information handling system entering the reduced power state, wherein the first wireless device is enabled such that it at least wirelessly connects to a network; receive a first message received over the wireless network through an established network connection that maintains a presence on the wireless network; provide a second message over the established network connection to a sender of the first message, the second message containing information that the information handling system is in the reduced power state.
18 . The computer readable storage medium of claim 17 , wherein the first and second messages are instant messages.
19 . The computer readable storage medium of claim 18 , wherein the instructions are further executable to:
in response to receipt of the first message, store the first message at the information handling device, the stored first message being observable at the information handling system upon the information handling system being transitioned from the reduced power state to a higher power state.
20 . The computer readable storage medium of claim 19 , wherein the information handling system is a laptop computer, and wherein the laptop computer is transitioned from the reduced power state to the higher power state at least in part based on the laptop computer being transitioned from a closed configuration to an at least partially open configuration.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
