Abstract
A prosthesis device can include a socket or a kit for forming a socket having a lanyard suspension system. In one example, the lanyard suspension system includes a tightening device having a housing, and tightening the lanyard gathers a tensioning line portion of the lanyard into an interior of the housing.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A suspension system for a socket of a prosthetic device, the system comprising:
a lanyard comprising a connector configured to couple with a liner to retain the liner in the socket, the lanyard further comprising a tensioning line coupled with the connector; and a tightening device coupled with the tensioning line, the tightening device comprising a housing that defines a cavity and further comprising an actuator configured to control movement of the tensioning line, wherein actuation of the actuator causes a portion of the tensioning line to gather into the cavity of the housing.

3 . (canceled)
4 . The suspension system of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of the tightening device is embedded in a sidewall of the socket.
5 . The suspension system of claim 1 , wherein the tightening device comprises a base portion that is fixedly secured to the socket, and wherein the housing is configured to be selectively attached to the base portion and selectively removed from the base portion.
6 . The suspension system of claim 2 , wherein a guide path extends through a wall of the socket, and wherein a portion of the tensioning line passes through the guide path.
7 - 12 . (canceled)
13 . The suspension system of claim 1 , further comprising a diverter configured to redirect the tensioning line from a first direction in which the tensioning line enters the diverter to a second direction that is different from the first direction in which the tensioning line exits the diverter.
14 . (canceled)
15 . The suspension system of claim 13 , further comprising a conduit coupled to the diverter, the conduit defining a duct through which the tensioning line extends.
16 . (canceled)
17 . The suspension system of claim 1 , further comprising a conduit that defines a duct through which the tensioning line extends.
18 . (canceled)
19 . (canceled)
20 . The suspension system of claim 1 , wherein the tightening device comprises a spool within the cavity of the housing, the spool being configured to gather the tensioning line.
21 - 25 . (canceled)
26 . The suspension system of claim 1 , further comprising a receptacle configured to receive at least a portion of the connector therein.
27 . The suspension system of claim 26 , wherein the connector is configured to form a first fluid-tight seal with a sidewall of the receptacle.
28 . (canceled)
29 . The suspension system of claim 27 , wherein the connector is further configured to form a second fluid-tight seal with a portion of the liner, and wherein the first and second fluid-tight seals are configured to inhibit or prevent air from passing through the suspension system during use of the socket.
30 - 37 . (canceled)
38 . A kit for use in the manufacture of a socket for a prosthetic device, the kit comprising:
a lanyard that comprises a tensioning line; a tightening mechanism that comprises an actuator and a housing that defines a cavity; and one or more of (i) instructions for coupling the lanyard and the tightening mechanism with a socket for a prosthetic device or (ii) information usable to access the instructions for coupling the lanyard and the tightening mechanism with the socket for a prosthetic device, the instructions comprising directions to: couple the housing to the socket; and couple the lanyard with the tightening mechanism such that actuation of the actuator causes a portion of the tensioning line to gather into the cavity of the housing.
39 . The kit of claim 38 , further comprising a base, wherein the instructions further comprise directions to secure the base to the socket, and wherein said coupling of the housing to the socket comprises attaching the housing to the base.
40 - 42 . (canceled)
43 . The kit of claim 38 , wherein the tightening mechanism further comprises a spool and a cover, and wherein the instructions further comprise directions to:
couple the spool with the tensioning line; situate the spool within the cavity of the housing; and close the cavity via the cover.
44 . (canceled)
45 . The kit of claim 38 , wherein the tightening mechanism further comprises a base, and wherein the housing is configured to be selectively coupled to the base and selectively decoupled from the base.
46 . The kit of claim 38 , wherein the instructions further comprise directions to:
form a guide path of which at least a portion extends through a wall of the socket; and thread the tensioning line through said at least a portion of the guide path that extends through the wall of the socket.
47 . (canceled)
48 . (canceled)
49 . The kit of claim 38 , further comprising a diverter configured to redirect the tensioning line from a first direction in which the tensioning line enters the diverter to a second direction that is different from the first direction in which the tensioning line exits the diverter.
50 - 54 . (canceled)
55 . The kit of claim 38 , further comprising
a connector configured to be coupled with the tensioning line; and a lanyard housing that defines a receptacle for receiving the connector.
56 - 59 . (canceled)
60 . The kit of claim 38 , further comprising a dummy, wherein the tightening mechanism further comprises a base configured to be coupled with either the dummy or the housing.
61 - 68 . (canceled)
69 . A suspension system for a prosthetic socket, the system comprising:
a lanyard that comprises a tensioning line; a conduit that defines a duct sized to receive the tensioning line therein; and a tightening device that comprises:
a spool around which the tensioning line can be wound;
a housing that defines a cavity into which at least a portion of the spool can be received; and
a cover configured to couple with the housing to substantially close the cavity,
wherein, when the conduit and the tightening device are secured to the prosthetic socket, the tensioning line extends through the conduit and into the tightening device, and wherein tightening the tightening device winds the tensioning line around the spool as the tensioning line is gathered into an interior of the tightening device.
