Device and method for treating a vessel
Abstract
A device and method for treating bodily diseases and/or conditions, for example, varicose veins, tumors and aneurisms including for example insertion of a blocking device toward a target destination using a catheter and delivery of sclerosing or other agents to the vessel while maintaining minimal, for example zero pressure in the treatment area. The blocking device may prevent treatment materials, embolisms, debris etc. from entering the upstream section of vessel. The blocking device may include, for example, a cap or other concave shape and may be expandable or extendible towards the vessel walls.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A method of using an expandable plug for vessel treatment, comprising:
using catheter to guide said expandable plug in a collapsed state to a treatment area in said vessel; using a guidewire to release said expandable plug outside of said catheter for inducing an expansion of said expandable plug in said treatment area to an expanded state and for anchoring of said expandable plug to said treatment area; using said catheter for delivering a treatment agent to said treatment area; and using said catheter for pulling said expandable plug from said vessel after said treatment agent is delivered.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said expandable plug comprises a cap and a base to stabilize the cap in said vessel.
3 . The method of claim 2 , comprising an inflatable balloon disposed between the cap and the base.
4 . The method of claim 2 , wherein said expandable plug comprises a concave cap; wherein said concave cap is expandable so that a rim of the cap can extend outwards towards vessel walls.
5 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the base is expandable outwards towards said vessel.
6 . The method of claim 2 , wherein said expandable plug comprises a cap; wherein an increase in pressure in an inner portion of said cap to cause said cap to expand outwards towards walls of said vessel.
7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein pressure is provided by balloon inflation.
8 . The method of claim 2 , wherein pressure stored within the cap causes the cap to expand outwards towards walls of said vessel.
9 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising using a guidewire to release a base which expands outwards towards walls of said vessel.
10 . The method of claim 6 , wherein said pressure is provided by a stent like mechanism.
11 . The method of claim 6 , wherein said pressure is provided by a coil like mechanism.
12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said expandable plug comprises an absorbable wire.
13 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said expandable plug is coated with occluding agent.
14 . A system of guiding an expandable plug for vessel treatment, comprising:
a catheter having a guidewire adapted to be connected to an expandable plug in a collapsed state; a control mechanism to push said guidewire for releasing said expandable plug outside of said catheter for inducing an expansion of said expandable plug in a treatment area of a vessel to an expanded state and for anchoring of said expandable plug to said treatment area; a drug dispensing mechanism to deliver a treatment agent in said treatment area; and a pullable mechanism for pulling said expandable plug from said vessel after said treatment agent is delivered.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
